Best of Citysearch: San Diego Restaurants
Updated: September 14, 2009
"Is that really your job?" I get asked that question all the time, and I always answer the same. Yes. It is. I eat, drink, shop, spa (as a verb) and explore for a living. "I want that job!" is usually what folks say in return. Well, you're in luck! At least for the next few days. We're turning the tables and letting you tell us what's hot and what's not. Best wine list? Best Italian food? Most fab chef? I'll get you started with some of my recommendations below, but then it's your turn to take the reigns. Jayne's

BEST NEIGHBORHOOD SPOT,BURGER, WINE LIST, YOU NAME IT: Can you tell that I'm mildly obsessed with Jayne's lately? It's been around a while now, anchoring the Normal Heights end of 30th Street, but it never fails to surprise me with a great new app (Pan Con Tomate is my most recent love) or a new addtion to the wine list or a fab seasonal dessert. Overall--from the menu to the simple, friendly decor to the so-romantic patio--Jayne and company are doing nearly everything right these days.

Burger Lounge

BEST BURGER: I love the grass-fed burgers at Burger Lounge, and I love that they offer a "baby lounge" size for people who want to save room for their perfectly thin-and-crispy onion rings. I also applaud the local owners of Burger Lounge for a great Twitter presence. Follow them @Burger_Lounge for lots of great freebies.

George's at the Cove
Read Reviews1250 Prospect St, La Jolla, CA 92037 (map)
BEST VIEW: Need I explain at all? It's just plain stunning, and always my go-to spot when I need to feel that ocean breeze. My favorite menu item right now? The seared ahi with soba noodle salad. Cold, refreshing, perfect.

Zenbu

BEST SUSHI: We have always loved Zenbu sushi's La Jolla spot, so we felt double the love this year when they opened a second location in Cardiff.

Cucina Urbana
Write a review505 Laurel, San Diego, CA 92101 (map)
BEST ITALIAN: Congrats to the team at Cucina Urbana for pulling off the most stunning remodel of a restaurant in just 6 weeks! That's how long it took owner Tracy Borkum to transform the old Laurel into what is now a cozy, but still modern, family-style Italian cucina. We also love the new retail-priced wine program.
