While we would be among the first to argue that French fries might just be the perfect food (salty, crunchy, fried pieces of heaven), there are a few restaurants and bars in San Diego that have figured out how to make them even better. For the ultimate carne asada fries, head to Del Cerro's tiny neighborhood plaza and find Mi Guadalajara. For less than $6, you get a dinner-plate sized portion of crinkle-cut fries, fried crispy, topped with heaps of salty carne asada, sour cream, guacamole, and salsa fresca. Oh yeah, and then the whole plate is covered with melted cheese.
Feeling bad? Looking to rebel against your latest diet attempt? Try the Gorgonzola fried at High Dive. A huge plate of fries, covered in melted gorgonzola cheese, then topped with bacon, sour cream and grilled onions.
Neighborhood offers two types of fries, and neither is technically "loaded" with toppings like many others on this list. But, both orders of fries at Nieghborhood are definitely loaded with flavor. The sweet potato fries come topped with Goldmine Shaft cheese crumbles and a peppered malt mignonette, and the Idaho potato garlic fries come dusted with raw garlic and a garlic-herb mayo on the side.
Loaded fries at Lefty's are an exercise in keeping things classic: French fries, cheese, bacon, sour cream. Does it get any better than that? Check out their new location in Mission Hills on Goldfinch with the same great menu as 30th Street.
Order your fries "animal-style" from In-N-Out for a heaping pile of their never-frozen, freshly-cut fries topped with grilled onions, special sauce and cheese.
