In Short – Known locally as "The Murph"--officially named after legendary San Diego sportswriter Jack Murphy, who was instrumental in bringing the Padres and Chargers to town--the rechristened Qualcomm Stadium no longer hosts the Padres. The stadium continues to be a premier sports venue in Southern California, focusing primarily on college and pro football. Since its 1967 construction, the facility has undergone two multimillion-dollar expansions, bringing its capacity to more than 71,000.
