World-famous zoo is home to over 4,000 rare and endangered plant and animal species, plus food, educational programs and more.. In Short
Everything here--from the striking animal habitats among the terrain's natural canyons to the directional signs that reveal a unified and understated aesthetic--is expertly crafted. Stamina is essential for taking it all in: Open-air trams and a Skyfari ride aren't bad ways to see the sights, but on foot is best. With more than 500 animal species on hand (many of them constantly whooping it up), as well as 6,500 plant species, you'll need more than one visit to really appreciate the zoo's exotic charms. With or without children, the Children's Zoo is delightful and unique. While many exhibits are kid-sized and kid-oriented, everyone will enjoy the Animal Nursery, with its diaper-clad primates, and the petting paddock, where you can pet, scratch and tickle a variety of docile animals. Animal caretakers often bring out baby animals for public display.

:). The zoo grounds are quite hilly so have your walking shoes on. Its very easy to find your way around and the trip is well worth the price. There is SO much to do and see. Very, very fun!

The BEST!. I used to live in San Diego, so going to the Zoo is one of my favorite childhood memories. This is by far the biggest, cleanest zoo in the States with the most animals. There's so much to see and so much to do. After seeing and playing with all the animals, you can walk through the rain forests, take a bus tour, ride the sky ride, it really is a lot of fun. There's a lot of good food, and gift shops. Visit the gift store right by the entrance if you like jelly beans, they have a variety of about 40 flavors you can mix and match for yourself. The San Diego Zoo is worth every cent!

Best Zoo in the Country. This zoo has set the standard for zoos the world over. Nothing compares to the landscaping, enclosures and the variety of species. Bird and mammal shows are entertaining and educational. It's impossible to see everything in one day, but it's money well spent. Besides giving visitors an eye and earful, the behind-the-scenes research and conservation efforts are most impressive. The location in Balboa Park, lends to a great opportunity to spend a full day at the zoo and then head to the Gas Lamp District downtown for a nice meal before heading home.
