The Scene – When out-of-town guests come in for a visit or if you just have a special occasion to celebrate, this is the go-to restaurant in Pacific Beach. Unlike the beach hut-themed restaurants up Garnet, Gringo's space is elegant and modestly designed with Spanish-style furnishings and a sleek, but never generic atmosphere. – – The Food – While there's nothing new here (everything is relatively recognizable), the kitchen is good at taking a traditional dish and making it their own with technique and seasonings. Two good examples are the Conchita Pibil -…
What mexican food??
by Mr Walls at Citysearch
Went to this wannabe Mexican food place a few weeks ago and was majorly disappointed. The food sucked. Nothing about it was mexican. You can't just add some salsa to something and call it mexican. Where was the menudo, chilaquiles or mole?? Ohh they did have these crappy store bought tamales that tasted like plastic!! There were no traditional mexican desserts or drinks. The server was a total D*ck. He was way more interested in serving the tables full of the young hot dumb blondes than he was of helping anyone else. The other tables next to us were complaining as well.
In a nutshell, bad food, bad service, you have to pay for vallet parking when your car is 2 feet away from you. I'd rather to go El Torito than this place again.....The only reason I give this place one star is because you have to in order to publish this post!!!
- Pros: Good location
- Cons: Crappy food & bad service
THE WORST EVER
by GNacks at Citysearch
I have been to Gringo's a few times. This is my last time. Everytime the service and food is mediocre. This last time I complained to the manager about our server and he called me a liar! Also, pretty sure 5 out of the 6 of us are sick today from the food. Not good.
- Pros: Margaritas
- Cons: Everything else
Best brunch on the beach
by 4jack at Citysearch
I have been to Gringos many times, and I have always enjoyed my time there. The food is good, the margaritas are freakin awesome! Where else can you get a 27 ounce drink that they arent pushing for you to share with someone? Its like the big gulp of booze.
On sundays they have a brunch that is all you can eat and drink mimosas. Sold!
The food is good too, I usally get the filet and shrimp combo. Its a file mignon and jumbo prawns for like $25. Good deal.
Great place to go with friends, great drink specials, i highly reccomend it.
- Pros: margaritas and brunch
