Manager of Local Restaurant Indifferent to Guest's Concerns.
Arrived at 11:30 a.m. just before lunch with computer and notebook in hand. Told the host that I wanted to get some work done during lunch. There were two other booths seated in the area in which I was seated. ordered and had just started my lunch when the table for 13 (11 adults, two small children) NEXT TO MY BOOTH arrived for a birthday party. The noise level was of course high, and I finally gave up and asked my server for the check. She apologized (I failed to get her name), offered to seat me elsewhere, but I frankly didn't want to move papers, computer and lunch parafernalia at this point.
When I went to the desk to pay my bill, she had called the manager and explained what she obviously felt was an unfortunate oversight on the part of the host in seating me next to a large party. The manager looked at the bill ($16 +), nodded, and walked away.
The level of indifference was quite a surprise ("I am so sorry" would have been only polite), but it does explain the unthinking action of the host who seated me.
Would I recommend the restaurant? No.
Food looked great, but tasted ....
Visually attractive food presentation, all dishes our family ordered. If only you could "eat with your eyes ..."
Tortilla soup was made with precooked frozen mesquite-grilled chicken breasts sliced, plenty of corn and rice, canned broth, and a few pieces of fresh squash; very salty. Brisket tacos flavored with Southern style barbecue sauce on flour tortillas, rather than Mexican spices. Large double stacked quesadilla stuffed with sauteed onions and red bell peppers; tiny portion sour cream/pico de gallo and no guacamole. Chipotle chicken fajitas were topped with fried onion rings, chicken in this dish was from fresh and flavorful; adding the sauteed veggies from the quesadilla, it was the best dish at the table, in spite of the fried rings.
Service prompt and courteous, in contrast to the quality of the food itself. Prices were relatively high, at chicken fajitas for $14.95 and quesadilla for $12.95.
Good tex-mex. More of a Tex-Mex chain than anything, On The Border features some interesting menu items, such as their shrimp scampi, which I liked. I didn't care for their sour cream covering alot of their dishes. The chips and salsa were good. A bit pricey for what it was.
