My favorite SD Pub. One of my favorite places to go for great tasting wings and beer. TV's everywhere to catch up on sports. The crowd is usually mixed .. and there is a small dancing area if you want to shake your bon bon. Just my type of bar... I love you Maloney's!
Disrespectful People.
So on St. Patricks days, 6 friend and I went to this place. We spent at least 400 bucks in here between food and drinks. We went outside to the cigarette smoking area as there was an event outside. My friend (a girl) asks the bouncer an innocent question about the bar and the bouncer replies: SHUT YOUR MOUTH!. And she asks again and he says the same thing: SHUT YOUR MOUTH.
When I saw that I got quite irritated. I tell the bouncer: That is no way to talk to a lady or any customer of this place. And they immediately grab me and say, you are getting kicked out. In that instant i throw my drink in the bouncers face.
They call the police and almost got my wife arrested on false charges. Whomever runs this place has a serious problem. The bouncer, specially that black fat ass they have outside thinks he has too much power and is way over his head.
If you own or manage this place, you better do something about it, because I'm also filing a complaint with the BBB and the city of san diego. This is BS.
Consumer Avocate: Bar Steals money from Drunk Patrons!!. One bad apple can spoil the bunch! Last weekend (9/8/2007) a few friends and I celebrated a birthday party at Maloney?s ? a place we frequented often. Earlier in the night my friend purchased a Midori Margarita for $12 (which sounds like a rip off already!). Then at around 1pm my friend orders the same drink for his wife at the upstairs bar and the bar back charges him $17 for the same drink! Ironically, the designated driver of the group who did not drink was kicked out of the bar because he questioned the bartender refused to purchase the overpriced drink. After we were kicked out we talked to the supervisor on shift and he told us the bartender was right to request us to be exited from the bar and the bartender accused of stealing because we didn?t buy his costly concoction. We left angry because this individual ruined what was supposed to be a celebratory night. My friends and I will never visit that bar again and if you value your money I suggest you don?t either! I have heard of bars that take advantage of drunken patrons by ramping drink prices at the end of the night but never thought such a reputable place would participate in such unscrupulous business practices.
Favorite Bar in the gas lamp district.. I really like this bar because it is very big and it is not a huge rip off like some of the other bars / clubs in the gas lamp. This bar has a huge downstairs area as well as a more hip upstairs area. with a patio for smoking. On weekends the crowd is usually younger, it is a good crowd not all the guys/girls dressed up for the clubs. Tends to be the more down to earth crowd. Lines are also usually not very long, get there by 10:30 should be no line at all and usually the cover is no more than $5. The drinks are also moderatly priced. I recommend this place for anyone looking for a good bar scene but doesnt want to deal with the clubs and the $15 drinks.
Venerable pub offers a hard-to-find combo in the trendy Gaslamp: a fun, hip crowd with cheap drinks and no dress code..
In Short
It's not exactly a place where everybody knows your name, but it's close. With friendly 'tenders and classic pub decor, Maloney's manages to stay local and low key, despite it's location square in the middle of nightclub central between Deco's and On Broadway. Brass details define the broad, mohagany bar and dark booths outline the main room. Drinks are strong and reasonably priced - but no specials - as is the pub grub.
