Editorial Review for The Prado at Balboa Park – by Erin Chambers
The Scene
A mosaic fountain dribbles in the courtyard entrance to this model of Spanish architecture in Balboa Park's House of Hospitality. Inside, a bright, tiled ceiling hangs over the bustling dining room that opens out onto the lush patio, where strung lights connect the intricate, tiered pathways between tables. Candles lit at dusk enhance the atmosphere--like dining in an outdoor plaza in Madrid.
The Food
Wolfgang Puck-trained chef Jeff Thurston fuses Latin and Italian classics in an eclectic, bright menu with everything from mushroom risotto to sushi rolls. Proscuitto-wrapped asparagus with red tomato vinaigrette starts off sharp and bright, while the Prado tortilla soup is warm and subtle. Entrees are seafood, pastas and hearty meat dishes like the pistachio-crusted rack of lamb served perfectly with light vegetables and Parmesan risotto.

Absolutely and utterly divine. We too had a drugged out waiter - but whatever. The food and atmosphere was incredible! KOBE SUSHI ROLLS ARE TO DIE FOR!!

My goodness - I do not have enough adjectives to describe the level of excellence at which this restaurant operates. The decor was unique and the food divine. We sat on the patio and were shocked that the meal just kept getting better and better! We had the Kobe beef sushi rolls, mahi mahi fish tacos and the skirt steak beef tacos for lunch. The chef definitely knows what he/she's doing when it comes to beef. YYUUUMMMMYY! My husband and I are still talking about it! The only negative was that our waiter had a ring of white powder around both of his nostrils throughout our meal, which was rather unsightly, (but funny) and he was absent for most of our meal. However, where he dropped the ball the incredible bus staff were right there to pick it up.
Pros: AMAZING FOOD! PERFECT ATMOSPHERE!
Cons: Drugged out waiter.
