Good place to come for breakfast, but come hungry because the portions are huge. Also, there is usually a long line, so reserve or be prepared to wait.

A must to visit!. I had been waiting to go to this place for a long time and was not disappointed one bit! The food was amazing and the portions….OMGosh….were they huge! Even if you go starving you will definitely leave with leftovers. Lewis was our server and he was so nice and made the evening even better. I can’t wait to go back for some more yummy food and to say hi to Lewis!

COME STARVING AND READY TO EAT!!. At Hash House A Go Go it's all about QUANTITY and QUALITY!! Not only do they give you a huge plate of whatever you ordered, its soo good!! I have to visit this place everytime I drive down to San Diego. So far been there twice and its been an amazing breakfast everytime.. Will be back for the long weekend!!

Perfect for the Hummer drivers of San Diego.. excessive portions, wait times, and prices.

the food is good. so what? does that justify waiting 45 minutes to get a table for 2 for a weekend brunch, and spending $11 for a pancake? Why is the pancake so expensive? Is it made with rare or organic ingredients? no, it's just enormous. The editorial review says it right there - BEHEMOTH portions. What is wrong with people? Large is fine. But BEHEMOTH? no thanks. I could have gone to Denny's and ate a normal pancake of comparable qulaity for $5.50, then threw another pancake in the garbage for $5.50. Brunch for 2, no mimosas or anything, came to over $50. literally, what a waste.

fun & huge portions. The portions here are huge (think italian family dining portions, only it's a serving for ONE here). This place is really busy and is best known for their breakfast items. Their pancakes are the size of manhole covers (not exaggerating). Cute place, good for groups (make reservations for more than 4), and pretty decent service.

Not sure if it's worth the wait. One of the first weekends my wife and I lived in San Diego, we heard rave reviews of this place for breakfast. Having dined there, I'm not sure if we would ever go back. We were warned to get their early (especially on Sundays) otherwise be prepared to wait. We got there at about 10am, and had about an hour plus wait. When we finally got seated, we were fairly disappointed by the service. Considering we had waited so long, the least the place could have done was be attentive to our needs. This was not the case. The food itself was pretty decent, with HUGE portions for sure. Of course, you would expect huge portions when you're playing 15-20 per dish. All in all, I don't think I would go back. It's too crowded, the service is inadequate, and it's more of a place to be seen, rather than to eat.

Breakfast is the most important, and expensive, meal of the day. Hash House has consistently (the 2 times I've been there) gave me the best breakfast experience of my life. The service is great (think friendly, normal-sized suicide girls,) the atmosphere is original (farm/industrial,) and the portions are HUGE. I had "Lou's Special" (I think it was Lou,) a large platter of creamy mashed potatoes, topped with a fresh baked buttermilk biscuit, then spicy crab cakes, topped with an egg, and smothered in a SPICY hollandaise. That'll wake you up! It was beautifully garnished and served with a slice of juicy, sweet watermelon. The woman next to me had a Captain Crunch pancake the size of a Frisbee. Wow.

The only downside is the price. For two of us it cost almost $40. In Indiana, where one of the owners is from, TWENTY dollars could feed four people a breakfast big enough to fuel them all day, pay the tab, and have change to leave a tip and pay for parking. Oh that's right, they don't have to pay for parking in Indiana!

Anyway, I digest...

Just go- it's worth it. Just know before you go!

Hash House a NO NO!!. Based on the reviews of this restaurant, my family and I were eager to try this place out. We were extremely disappointed with the food. Yes, you get huge portions, but that is not a positive thing when the food is bland and over priced. My family paid over $70 for 4 people for breakfast! The huge plates and portions you receive might distract some people from the quality of food, but not us.

On a positve note, the service was good, atmosphere was warm and inviting.

If you are visiting San Diego and want a good breakfast, avoid this place. This is a tourist trap, big on hype, little on taste.

Arrive very hungry!. My original intention was to visit this place for its mouth-watering breakfast menu, but due to time constraints, my family ended up here for dinner - sure glad it worked out that way! The service was super-friendly, attentive, and very efficient. The cuisine is American comfort with a few modern alterations, e.g. heirloom tomato w/pesto and asparagus spears instead of peas & carrots. Before the entrees arrived, we were served warm buttermilk biscuits with honey & butter. Each of our main dishes was more than enough to satisfy two people: halibut w/cornmeal battered shrimp, a mushroom & swiss burger w/gooey macaroni & cheese, and their popular meatloaf with a red pepper, spinach & cheese "filling." The dishes were well-prepared and flavorful, but the portions overwhelming. The ambience was casual, but nice enough to bring a date. I will have to try their breakfast next time!
