Norte Mexican Food & Cocktail. My wife and I have been going to Norte, previously Fidel's, since Moby Dick was a minnow. The people are Great, the service is fabulous and the food is the best Mexican food we've ever had, and we've eaten at a LOT of Mexican Restaurants in the 40 years we've been married. Our entire family goes to Norte, sometimes one family at a time and sometimes as a whole tribe. We have NEVER been disappointed with the food OR service. One thing my wife and I REALLY enjoy is during the work-week on the way home from work at least once or twice a week we stop in for our favorite dish and a nice relaxing atmosphere to wind down from the busy day. I hope Norte is there for many more years to come.

Bad service, bad food.. I went to Fidel's last night and was very disappointed. I went to the restaurant with a group of 12 for our friend's birthday. After we sat down, it took about 10 minutes to get our drinks and 25 minutes for our server to take our order. When he finally he came, he was actually saying things like "come on" to us so we would order faster. I ordered a virgin strawberry daiquiri that had almost no flavor in it. 10 minutes later I saw our server and complained about the daiquiri. He then tried to convince us that that is what a daiquiri is supposed to tast like. Apparently daiquiris are supposed to taste like watered down cool aid. When my plate of chips, cheese and guacamole came, it looked good. But when I tasted the food it was lukewarm. It was like they had made the food and then let it sit for 10 minutes till it wasn't hot anymore. During the meal our server just gave up giving us water refills and we didn't see him again till he brought the check.

I know other people have had good experiences from this restaurant, but based on my experience I will never come back. The restaurant's building is pretty interesting. It'd be worth it to go in and look around. But I wouldn't spend money there.

How I love Fidels. I love to walk on the beach, get coffee at Vinaka and eat dinner at Fidels. Something about the chips and salsa they put at every table is absolutely addicting. It's a high quality, sit down restaurant with hold in the wall prices. Go during happy hour and get great margaritas at small prices and get some chicken floutas while you're at the bar. For dinner I recommend the crab burrito-I always substitute the salsa verde for their yummy burrito sauce. They're chimichangas and tostadas are also a favorite! The only thing I recommend against is ordering a hamburger, go to knock out burger up the street.

Editorial Review. North County's go-to Mexican food spot for authentic beans, rice, tacos, carne asada and carnitas, plus signature margaritas.

Best Mexican Food Anywhere. I've been going there since 1980. Been looking for a place that has food (especially the sauce) like it but nothing comes close from Los Angeles to Texas. You can't go wrong with anything on the menu but I really like the chicken burrito. The tender meat and the way the flavors are cooked in with that sauce is unbeatable.
