Editorial Review for Hodad's – by Eric Grossman

In Short
Surf shops and dive bars excluded, Hodad's can make a claim as being the commercial heart of OB. Locals of all stripes, from grungy surfers to casually-dressed families, sit amid license plate-covered walls while munching on the eatery's signature burgers. Tattooed servers deliver thick-cut onion rings, French fries and creamy milkshakes from the rear kitchen. The juicy burgers, available in three sizes, can be ordered plain or overstuffed with fresh toppings, bacon and American cheese.

We sat at the bar since it was the only place to sit in the whole restaurant. After walking by a few times and seeing a line out the door, we felt lucky to get the bar! The bar tender was very prompt and friendly. I ordered a single cheeseburger that was awesome. I wish I knew the mini burgers (I think that’s what they are called) aren’t sliders – they are just normal size burgers. The regular burgers (like what I ordered) are huge! Next time I will get a mini. Overall, I’d recommend this place for a casual meal if you don’t mind the potential wait.

Pros: burgers are very good

Cons: there might be a wait

We went down here on a Saturday and were there when it opened at 11, by 11:15, there was a wait. This is an indication that people love this place. Huge burgers, great frings (fries/onion rings combo) ... great service, very friendly and prompt ... .thought about getting a double, very glad to have ordered a single cheeseburger. Wish I could have remembered to get a shake instead of a soda, but that will be rectified on our next visit. Awesome atmosphere, lots to read and watch while you wait for your order. We took a long walk on the pier afterwards to work some of this off. One of the best burgers I have ever had, and my husband agrees

Pros: Portions, service, quality of food

Cons: None
