terrible treatment of disabled senior
by verysmartblonde
I'm a senior on Social Security disability.
I opened an ETA account at Point Loma Credit Union. I wasn't given any information, written materials, etc., just a receipt and a paper with my account # on it.
Before opening an account I saw the manager, Debbie Clow and she assured me that I could get a debit card (NOT an ATM card). I never got any printed material (fees, ATM locations, etc.). I had to call the customer service number and request information (which was never sent to me).
All was well until I got a call from Mimi. She rudely said that an "audit" was done on my account and that I shouldn't have been issued a debit card. The card will be cancelled and I will be sent an ATM card. And, I was told that I was not allowed to cash any checks, to deposit money into the "checking" account OR into the savings account, AND I can't open an additional checking or savings account because I am listed on Chexsystems! I told her that the PLCU fee schedule which came with my statement lists "Check cashing if non-member $5 each", and I asked if someone can walk in off the street and cash a check for $5, why are you telling me, an account holder, that I cannot cash checks there? She said they do not cash checks for non-account holders. Yeah, right.
Today I checked my account online and saw I'm overdrawn $21.23!! No explanation. I called customer service but was immediately transferred to Debbie Clow. She said I was charged an overdraft fee because a charge came in for $9.69 and there was only $4.77 in my account. I asked why it was not declined and why I was being charged. She said it was a "processing fee" and refused to correct or waive it because it was not their error.
The ETA Website states the following: What happens if I overdraw my ETA? It?s very difficult to over draw an ETA. If you do, there is a MAXIMUM charge of $10 for overdrafts that have occurred during a 24-hour period.
Oops! They overcharged me.
They are liars and I'll be suing them.
- Pros: ?
- Cons: Dishonest! Abusive. Phone support usually can't speak English.
I would recommend this branch in a heartbeat
by annalorraine
I would recommend joining this branch because credit unions offer most of the same benefits as banks, and this particular credit union has very friendly staff. I've gone here for 8 years. Their CDs are wonderful. The only issue I've had with them is it is not possible to do a same day direct wire transfer because they must go through a third party (the fed) before they can make a transfer. All Credit Unions have that issue. Online services are great. Their Visa Loans are unbeatable. I have never had to pay any fees for anything (except wire transfers).
- Pros: Excellent Interest; high for savings, low for loans
- Cons: Wiring money is a hassle
