“Food is good too and there is free parking across the street at the Belmont/Beach lot.”
A young SoCal crowd gathers for frothy beers and sports games just steps from the sand in Mission Bay..
In Short
Walk into a sea of sunglasses, board shorts, flip-flops and pints of beer at this Mission Bay sports bar. Under the surfboard-lined ceiling and within the plasma tv-lined walls, groups of friends gather over thick burgers, cheap tacos and piles of hot wings. Young bartenders in black t-shirts serve up glasses of beer, shots of jager and well drinks. Upstairs, the Sky Bar offers views of the Pacific Ocean and Belmont Park's rollercoaster.
Best Sports bar ever. The review listed by Clouse was not for the Sandbar. The Sandbar Sports Grill does not use wristbands, does not use cheap plastic throw away cups, and does not have a wave machine. Clouse is talking about the Wavehouse. If you are going to give a bad review for a bar, please at least get the name of the bar correct!!!!
High prices and low class.
It was a Friday night and my wife and I finally got a babysitter. We were going out on the town and we were going to bring another couple with us. We've been waiting to do this for a while but the planets never aligned. My wife and her friend researched for a couple hours on the internet for the premium place to enjoy each others company. We didn't want loud music but we did want music. We wanted to 'people watch' without being to close to the crowd. The perfect spot seemed to jump from the computer monitor. We were going to the Sandbar Grill in Mission Beach. There was plenty of parking on the far side of the parking lot and boy was the scenery beautiful.
We arrived at the Sandbar Grill and it just looked like so much fun. We showed our ids at the door (that was nice of them since we are 40ish) and received wristbands. I felt like we were going on a carnival ride. Once inside we found a table nearly right away. We were a little ways awy from the island band and in sight of the wave surfers (some kind of wave machine where young guys can attempt tricks on simulated waves). The evening went well except for the waitress was slow and our dinners were served on plastic plates. I had the ribs which overflowed the tiny plate and a bag of doritos. I ordered a few drinks which were served in the thinnest of platic cups. I had to be delicate in handling the drink so that it wouldn't crush. After receiving our bill, even though we didn't ask for it, I noticed the charges were extrordinarily high. I asked for the manager who came fairly quickly. I mentioned that the prices were twice that of an upscale restaurant. He said that their rent was high and that he stood by the prices. I was not happy and we argued. I was leaving but before I left I was going to finish my beer. He called security (who was all ready to attack) who came over immediately and grabbed my beer and crushed the cup. The beer poured all over me and without apology I was escorted out. So, NEVER AGAIN!!
