Wonderfully fresh sushi. My husband and I dined here at Umi Sushi last night. When it comes to sushi, I'm rather traditional and stick with the nigiri. The uni was amazingly fresh and creamy. The fresh water eel was tender, and the smelt roe was salty and crunchy. The poke appetizer I had was flavorful and the use of wakame seaweed as a substitute for the traditional Hawaiian seaweed added a nice touch to the dish. My husband enjoyed his Korean BBQ short ribs (kalbi) and his shrimp tempura sushi roll. We ended the evening with some green tea ice cream for my husband, and red bean mochi for myself. Yum. The staff at Umi were friendly and great with suggestions and sharing their favorites. The fact that it's just a few minutes from our favorite Shelter Island hotel (Bay Club), is a bonus.

Great Food. I was amazed at the number of different rolls they had, although, like always, I went mainly for nigiri. But it was nice to try a new roll too. The food was great, not overpriced, and the service was wonderful. The atmosphere was more like a Red Lobster than a Japanese restaurant, but I will definitely go back!

best Japanese restaurant in Point Loma. We found this restaurant through friend as we just moved to San Diego area. Their sushi, variety of rolls, sashimi are excellent. Also, they have hot dishes which we have tried most of dishes are the best for who can't handle the raw fish. With good service and family friendly atmosphere, I recommend this restaurant for whom loves Japanese foods. My kids love their foods and whenever we go out, they ask for umi restaurant. It's worth of trying.

Best Sushi in San Diego.. Beautiful Sushi, Excellant Service, and Very Clean. Lobster Roll is awesome. Variety Japanes Sake and Beer make more pleasure dinning experience. There Tatami room (Japanese style private party room) is awesome!
