My husband and I chose to stay at this hotel for our honeymoon, not knowing anything about San Diego or its outlaying areas and were very impressed. We chose a less expensive room but were generously upgraded when we arrived, being allowed to choose from a variety of rooms. We chose to stay in the Country French room. I loved how I could sit in the tub and see the fire (which was daily stocked with wood) , it was just the relaxation that I needed after the stresses of wedding planning! The staff was friendly and even went to extent of having the places that we wanted to visit mapped out for us when we came down to breakfast the next day. If you are looking for a place that is sterile and uniform, this is not the place for you, but if you are looking for a place where you can let your hair down and just enjoy yourself, I would recommend checking this lodge out. My husband and I would definitely return!
Pros: parking, ambiance, friendly staff

When I got married, I didn't have much time or money to run off anywhere super expensive, so a coworker suggested the honeymoon suite. The website showed an immaculate room and seemed reasonable at $170/night. Upon our arrival, we were horrified at its condition. Apparently they never maintained the place since my friend had stayed there 20 years earlier; everything was run down. There were flies buzzing around and we could hear the phone ringing and the manager talking in the lobby beneath us. Unable to handle it, we immediately left, highly unsatisfied. However, we did manage to get a full refund. Thankfully we were able to find a suite in La Jolla that turned out to be cheaper and much better!
Cons: rundown, overpriced
