“The coffee was actually pretty good for typical American Joe and offers of refill were just frequent enough to keep it hot.”

Cute, good price, food is Diner expected, kids will love this place.
Walk on over to a wonderful sit-down breakfast at a price to rival any of the drive-thru close by. It is diner food, so expect it to be what you might cook at home if you are not a gourmet. We tried the omelets with fresh spinach, tomatoes and mushrooms. They were the flat, on the grill type, but were good, vegetables firm not mushy and the cheese was nice and sharp. Their fried potatoes have a nice spiciness, but no one could ever accuse them of not using salt or too much hot stuff. Waffles were as advertised, malt based with nice crunchy outside, soft fluffy inside, just made to sop up butter and syrup. The coffee was actually pretty good for typical American Joe and offers of refill were just frequent enough to keep it hot. The pancakes were light and fluffy as well. Again, just right for sopping up syrup and butter.
Kids will love the train going around the ceiling and the bright interior. It?s not very loud and the wait staff is efficient and friendly without being overboard in the chatty or silly 50's diner schmooze.
Overall, for breakfast, we left with our taste buds pleased and our stomach pleasantly full without a huge dent in our wallets.
1940s-style diner chain serves comfort food classics to patrons with a craving for nostalgia..
In Short
In 1982, businessman Doug Cavanaugh opened the first Ruby's in Southern California's Newport Beach, naming it after his mother. Today, this nationwide chain--adorned with red vinyl booths, Formica tables, soda fountains and retro posters--features the same timeless food and hospitality that keep diners coming back. Favorites are the classic burgers topped with secret RubySauce, fries and sweet shakes. Other staples include pancakes, omelettes, sandwiches, chili, salads and a variety of fountain treats.
