What People Are Saying About Tuscany

In Short – Tuscany's executive Chef Tomaso Maggiore grew up in Palermo, Italy. For 15 years, this Carlsbad restaurant has been capturing some of that authenticity, serving up hearty plates of veal, seafood, and hand-crafted pasta. Amidst the dining room's sculptures and oil paintings, couples linger at candle-lit tables over bottles of wine and plates of tiramisu. On the bar side, musicians play to a lively crowd, Tuesdays-Saturdays. –

Nothing special for the price

My wife and I recently checked out Tuscany having recently moved to Carlsbad. We had high hopes for it as there are lots of chain restaurants in the area and this was not a chain. We were hoping for something fresh and inspiring.
There were two parts to the restaurant - the front/bar and the spacious back room. The music in the front was a bit too loud to be romantic and the ambiance was lacking with the big screen TVs playing so we opted for the back.
That was a mistake as the back seems to be reserved for the over 60 crowd.
The food was also fitting to the over 60 crowd.
I was hoping for a nice lamb dish but didn't see anything that fit the bill on the menu. I ended up with a seared tuna and avocado salad which, for $20, was decidedly mediocre. It actually had ranch dressing slathered on it. For a $20 salad, I'd expect something a little more creative.
My wife had a seafood pasta dish which was reasonable good but not thrilling.
We were greeted very nicely but the actual table service was pretty mediocre.
Wine list was somewhat limited. I picked out a super tuscany for my wife but they were out of it. Went with an alternative suggested by the waiter which was reasonably good but the first glass and the second were very different in taste and color.
Overall a pretty expensive and mediocre/uninspiring meal.
- Pros: Nice space, not a chain
- Cons: Food pretty bland and mediocre
A wonderful dining experience!

My wife and I recently retired and relocated to Calsbad from Houston. We had spent 9 days at the Four Seasons looking at property before our relocation. On evening on the way back to the hotel we noticed Tuscany and thought it would be fun to try a local restaurant. We were not disappointed! Everything from the food to the service was 5 star! We have dined at some of the finest restaurants in over 30 countries and have never had a better dining experience. We have spent a lot more in other restaurants but never received as much for our money as we received from Tuscany. Everyone from the servers to the owners work to make it a great restaurant and make you feel special!
- Pros: Food, Service, Ambience
- Cons: Parking
