Someone HELP these owners, they are not doing their JOB.
I have never stayed here. Something must be terribly wrong. Thousands are spent to bring people in, to drop the ball multiplied X many complaints I would say is a large problem. I myself have thrown bad customers out my doors of my business simply out of respect to honest employees, that you don't want to loose over an annoying customer. If I didn't read it myself I would think its a conspiracy against the owner. TIP TO THE OWNER------Don't ask the manager how things are going, If your not too well to do, simply have a chat with the busboys, and or servers, and or the guys that don't speak that often, you will be suprised. Its rare I could get this involved just after simply reading, The owner should see how many employee's they have lost and why. PS. I am not a serial commenter.
Terrible! BEYOND Lousy!.
My experience was the worst. I was invited to the spa for a conference, and would not return again if they paid me.
Service was beyond LOUSY. We had to beg for the basic necessities, like fresh water. The head of the kitchen staff even lied to my face and stated that the water was fresh, when we all knew it was at the exact same level with the exact same empty tubes as before. Then they brought fresh water and ice and poured it over the old water from the day before. Our trash was overflowing and when I asked for them to empty it, the worker complained it was not his job, took it out and left us without a trash can for the rest of the day:( We ended up putting all the trash on a room service tray that they never picked up from 2 days before. The staff did nothing but complain as you saw them in the halls or in your room. I was never just asked if they can help me. It was like pulling teeth to get them to adjust the thermostat as the room temp was in the 80's.
The floors were dirty and there was no kleenex anywhere. I had to "borrow" it from the main bathroom in the hallway. The self parking is only paved half way and quite a haul. I do suggest valet parking, or camping gear if you park in the self park as it is extremely far from the front of the hotel front desk. If you are wondering why I have not mentioned any happy moments or feel good things that I believe the hotel has to offer, this is because there were none. You would have better service in a Motel 6, and you would have the rest of the bankroll that this hotel costs to really treat yourself in STYLE.
Disappointed by La Costa Resort.
I rented a 1 bedroom villa for 3 nights: nice room, living room, kitchen, very clean and a lot of space for 3 adults and 1 child.
Our internet connection never worked and we had to call the hotel guest service desk several times so somebody would come to repair it. Unfortunately they never fixed the problem and never offered us to move in a different room.
The main swimming pool and kid's water slides were so crowded (no seats available after 10:30am) and it was so loud that we decided to stay at the small pool closer to our room. If you are living in the area it looks like you can have an annual membership which gives you access to the swimming pools... no wonder why it was so busy since it is not only opened to hotel guests.
Also I took a manicure/pedicure appointment which they canceled at the last minute; I showed up at the salon on time and they told me that the lady who was supposed to take care of me just left for the day!!! Not a big deal but come on it's an hotel spa, they should have more than 1 person to do nails during the busy season!!!
The cherry on the cake was when we checked out: we had to go through our invoice very carefully because they billed us for about $300 of services we never had (for accessing the kid indoor playground that I never went to, for movies we never watched, a facial that was supposed to be free...)!!!
I doubt I go back to this hotel...
Beautiful Property, Bad Staff. The property is really pretty and peaceful.. The front desk Manager is rude and tries to belittle people. Besides being rude, he smells like smoke...Nasty. I can see why they aren't five-diamond. You have to start with staff that "like" what they do first.

Sadly, Bob Hope is definitely long gone from this place. It's heyday era seems long passed looking at the dingy decor and well-worn carpet. All they're left to is retirees who have bought the villas overlooking the golf course.
Last time I visited my sister who was studying at the nearby GIA, the Conventions & Visitors Bureau recommended this place as classic San Diego-Carlsbad-ish. Well, if you're at that age range, it might be well and fine. You'll have lots of company too since that seems to be the market they're after. It was just completely inappropriate for early, I mean early 30's me :(
La Cost Ya A Lot. I had heard so many great things about the resort, so I guess my expectations were high. First off, I would like to say that the over the phone reservations people were great (i.e. making promises, assuring all my needs would be met, etc.) but when you get the front desk it is a whole different story. Over the phone I requested two rooms and was promised that they would be either adjoining or right next door. I was also promised that each room would have two queen beds. When I got the front desk the clerk checked me and gave me two rooms about a 1/2 mile away from each other. After about 30 mins of pleading, he managed to get my rooms closer--not even in the same building. Both rooms had king beds NOT queen beds. Funny thing is that friends of ours checked in a few hours later and they got the room right across the hall from us. After we settled in and decided who was going to sleep on the king bed and who was going to get the rollaway bed we went to Legends (a place to eat there). Pretty expensive. The ambience is pretty nice and the staff was okay but the food was horrible. Everyone got sick and when we mentioned it to the hotel manager the next morning he replied, "I will let the chef know." Needless to say, we went "off campus" for the rest of our meals during our stay. This is a pretty popular place for small kids as the pool is filled with them, which is great... but a lot of kids equals a lot of trash. The pool is filled with empty plastic cups and straws, the lounge area had lots of trash under the chairs and the hot tub had floating popsicle sticks and hair. Yuck! The lack of upkeep at La Costa was very depressing. We paid about $380 a night (including resort fees and taxes) and wondered where the money was going. The deal breaker was the USED q-tip outside of my room for three days. Was I the only one who saw that? Guess so since maid missed our room both nights. Had to call to get towels. I would never go back there again. Not even if I won a free trip.
Overpriced and Under-delivers.
Stayed here for a conference at a $280/night rate (normal full-fare rate $470/night in the room I was in). This place has just undergone a much touted $140 Million renovation... believe me, this money must have been spent on advertising rather than on property improvements!! My room was musty, and had an A/C that barely worked. The carpet was dank-smelling, and my bathroom fixtures actually had green mold growing on then. EWWWWW!
Two calls to guest services failed to resolve this over my three-day stay. I had asked for a room near the conference center since I was on crutches, but was put in the back 40 acres, where the bellman actually drove me on a golf cart) through a construction site and past the dumpsters on the way to my room, practically as far as humanly possible from where I wanted to be. A call to the front desk resulted in no chage (no other rooms were available) and others in my group did not even get access to a room until well after dinner, despite the 4 o'clock check in time they advertise.
I had another opportunity to stay here this week, and opted for the Grand Pacific Palisades, a few miles away, but with an ocean view and about half the price for a nicer, newer room. If you stay at La Costa for the full-fare rate, make sure they put at least $400 cash back in your room every night, or you are overpaying!

Posh spa, but service leaves something to be desired. Such a shame. The spa and resort grounds are absolutely gorgeous. The complimentary services provided make the very expensive massages or facials completely worth it. Saunas, steam rooms, indoor and outdoor jacuzzis, this place has it all. They even provide a complimentary exfoliating scrub with any service. This usually costs around $50 at other spas. My gripe with La Costa Spa is that when I am paying almost $300 for a massage and facial, I expect the service to be impeccable. The women at the front desk were rude and the cleaning staff flew through the sauna rooms several times yelling about what they did the night before. My state of relaxation was completely ruined by this. For that money, I would try somewhere else, first.
