Outstanding Food and Excellent Service. I've been several times to both the Escondido and San Marcos locations and these are the two finest Mexican food restaurants in San Diego; hands down! All of their food choices are delicious and well-priced, and their service is friendly and timely! From the hostesses to the management/ownership you will easily recognize the tenets of a truly well-run organization! I have so many favorite dishes it would be difficult to name one, however their carne asada plate is outstanding. Their Sunday buffett is unbelievable in both it's quantity and quality and is well worth a try if you're looking for a place to eat after church. After lunch or dinner you MUST try the fried ice cream dish. It is out of this world amazing! You will never forget that phenomenally exquisite taste! The entire dining experience will leave you anxious to make a return trip. Again and again and again!
In hard times Cocina Del Charro delivers with great food for reasonable prices!!!.
Great restaurant , my family love going to Cocina, their food is awesome, my favorite are the Supreme Nachos (Wow) they also have a Brunch that is to die for for only a couple of bucks more than a regular item ( sooooo worth it.). Also great alcohol and wine selection. Their Banquet room is also great, we had several family events and school sports dinners, its actually one huge room that they can break down to 2 rooms!! its well worth looking into it if you have an event coming up. I have never been disapointed and will continue to go to Cocina, oh they also have a new location in San Marcos on restaurant row, same great food with a newer look.
PS i dont know about some of the review people wrote on this site...."had to pay for chips", "restaurant smells", "bad food".... honestly you must have gone to the wrong restaurant or are just making stuff up...liars
I would highly recomment Cocina del Charro to anyone anytime!!! Enjoy
Great Food at a Reasonable Price!!!!. I have gone to this restaurant multiple times because the portions are big, the food is really good and most importantly, it is reasonably priced. In this economy my family and I are looking for ways to save without sacrificing quality and we have found that this restaurant is the perfect solution. Great food at a reasonable price. I recommend you try the guacamole dip and the fajitas . . . it's a party in your mouth!
It doesn't get any more authentic than this!.
There are so many amazing things about this place, but the best is the family recipes that have been wow-ing the customers for decades. All the typical Mexican cuisine highlights are fantastic, but for foodies like me who like to try something new - it's all about the Cochinita Pibil! It's a Yucatan special that I'd never had before and it's incredible!
In addition to this dish, the carnitas are perfect (not fatty and greasy like most places) - they are juicy and so flavorful. The guacamole is so hard to stop eating and the brunch will keep you going back every Sunday.
The food tastes like my Mexican grandma cooked it fresh for me! YUM!!
Best Mexican in Escondido. My wife and I have been here several times, and each time we were impressed. The employees are very polite, and service was fast. The drinks are very good, and not watered down like some restaurants seem to do. We had their enchiladas and taco meal, and the servings were generous. It appeared to be very well run and clean restaurant. We are going there again today for lunch.
san marcos location.
We adore Mexican food, and love to find new places to eat. This is NOT the place to go. We went to Cocina del Charro today, and can honestly say that it was the WORST tasting food we have ever had. It was simply awful. I had chile relleno and a tamale, my friend had the rolled tacos and cheese enchilada. Our food arrived quickly, but it was incredibly bland, and the sauces were particularly horrible. I've had frozen food that tasted better. The service was adequate, but the food was not. I wish I could convey how awful it tasted. It didn't taste like Mexican food at all. It was a very poor attempt to pass as food. As we walked through the parking lot, I saw a woman walking with a bag of dog food- my friend and I laughed because we both agreed that at that point, that dog food looked mighty tasty. Sad, I know. It's now 3 am and my stomach is still hurting from the bad food I had at Cocina Del Charro. :(
I'd recommend Valentina's Grill, El Callejon, or The Yellow Coyote Tortilla Factory- all of those have authentic Mexican cuisine at reasonable prices, and their food is delicious!
Our favorite Lunch.
As my workplace is very close, we eat here at least once per week. The food is consistently good. You get a ton of food and will never leave hungry.
They are very generous with making substitutions on the combo meals.
I have never paid for chips there and I have probably eaten there 100 times. I have no idea what some people are talking about.
The iced tea is world class. When they see us coming they give us a couple of pitchers as we go through it rather rapidly.
The service is a bit sporadic, but it doesn't cause many problems. The food always comes out super hot and tasty.
This could be in the running for my last meal.
They should call it Cochina del charro. Dirty bathroom, slow service. smelly air. And you have to pay for extra chips! been there 2 times by force the second time and never, ever will go back. good riddance
BEST FOOD EVER. FANTASTIC EATS!! SERVERS VERY FRIENDLY, PLACE IS VERY CLEAN, ATMOSHERE IS GREAT, FOOD SERVED QUICKLY..WE ATE AT THE NEW ONE IN SAN MARCOS AND I WOULD HIGHLY RECOMMEND THIS PLACE. PRICES ARE REASONABLE AND WELL WORTH THE MONEY.
Affordably priced Mexican fare in a family-friendly and festive setting.
Family-owned and operated since 1978, this unpretentious Mexican eatery offers breakfast, lunch and dinner and a popular Sunday bunch buffet. While familiar favorites like enchiladas, tamales and tostadas are featured prominently in combos and a la carte, the house specialties are Mayan style chicken and pork, camarones rancheros, and carne asada. Wash it all down with a margarita, sangria, or your choice from the wine and beer list.
