Editorial Review for Ole Madrid – by Paul Gargano
In Short
Step into Ole Madrid and succumb to Mediterranean style and Spanish sass. Tones of gold and brick red provide warmth, while the dynamic layout enhances the character of the winding staircases and metal fixtures. The tapas selection offers enough variety to satisfy a group preparing for a night in the Gaslamp, while the entrees and balcony seating befit a romantic night for two. On weekends, the dining room is transformed into an after-dinner nightclub.

I agree with the other commentaries here. The service was some of the worst I have ever seen. The bartenders completely ignored my friend and I as soon as we walked up to the bar, even though they had both made eye contact with us right away. It was if they tried to find every possible task to complete in sight before they even acknowledged our presence. The woman acted like she was totally put out by us bothering her and she just wanted everyone to go away. We were in the bar for 2 hours because we had agreed to meet people there and I managed to flag her done twice the entire time I was there. There was no effort to try and serve on a first come, first serve basis, so I had to wait almost 30 minutes after I had finished my drink to get a new one. The place was simply not crowded enough at all for that kind of thing to happen. Not impressed!
Pros: The interior setting is pretty nice actually
Cons: The employees ruin the atmosphere

Drinks: Sangria - Not very good. Not alot of fruit juice and the red wine used overpowered any other tastes. Strawberry Margarita - Tasted alright but for a blended drink it was closer to "On the rocks" minus the ice. Appetizers: Chips and Salsa - Ice Cold "Pace style" salsa with cold stale chips. Not worth the money. Caesar Salad - Romaine hearts, tomatoes, croutons, and Caesar dressing. Very good. Calamari - deep fried calamari rings w/ cocktail and tartar sauce. Good. Proscuitto covered Asparagus - Ice cold with the "ham" looking very old. Awful. Main Course: Filet Mignon - the filet came with garlic mash potatoes, asparagus spears, with this buttery sauce. Good. New York Steak - the steak comes with garlic mash potatoes, asparagus spears, with a port-portabello demi glace. Very good. Service: It took 15 minutes to get drinks. She was at the bar the whole time talking to the bartender and others. The neglect of us was almost unbearable due to the fact that we asked for extra forks and didnt get them for about 15 minutes. The meals did not come out for a long time (almost 45 mins with the restaurant being a "ghost town"). She added 18% gratuity automatically on our check!!! On the menu it indicates that parties of 6 or more would incur that fee not a party of 3!!!! Conclusion: I do not recommend this place. You will spend more money than the meal and service is worth.
Pros: good caesar salad, new york steak
Cons: everything else
