Editorial Review for Whisknladle – by Maren Dougherty and Erin Chambers
In Short
From the large patio in front full of garden-like tables, Whisknladle still shows signs of it's past life as "ladies-who-lunch" mecca, Fresh. But one glimpse of the sleek new bar and lounge zone with pendant lighting and shiny white ottomans, and we're reminded of its new life as simple, hip, neighborhood spot for drinks and food. Owner Arturo continues to work with chef Ryan on the slow food-focused menu, compiled of mostly local and sustainably produced produce. Standout appetizers include a tangy beet and tangerine salad, smokey grilled asparagus and rotating soups made fresh daily. Lunch and dinner menus vary widely, from homemade papardelle pasta with bolognese sauce to Niman Ranch hanger steak to chorizo and date fritters.

My friends and I tried Whisk & Ladle on a recommendation from a friend. We arrived on a Friday night and sat out on the covered patio. We started by ordering one of the many unusual cocktails on the menu containing everything from lavender to chili peppers. The menu lists the dishes in order of light to heavy dishes. We ordered asparagus, spicy shrimp, flatbread pizza and mussels to start. Everyone was really happy with the variety and freshness of the dishes. I had butternut squash ravioli in a delicious rich and sweet sauce and others tried fish or steak dishes. We thought the ambiance and service was great.

A couple of my girlfriends mentioned a cool new restaurant and lounge they had just been to. They suggested that we go there for our next get together. So the other night a couple of us headed there in the later evening to have a few drinks and some late night food. I was surprised to find drinks with ingredients that I had not really seen around town. We all tried to order a different one to get to try all of them. There was a passion fruit sangria, one with smoked pear and vanilla pear with rum, and another with Sweet & Vicious basil rum, watermelon, habanero syrup. We also ordered some of the food off the Happy Hour meeting it was really great too. What a fun night!
