In Short – Located at the tip of Point Loma, this 160-acre unit of the National Park System commemorates conquistador and explorer Juan Rodriguez Cabrillo and preserves the Old Point Loma Lighthouse. Visitors enjoy spectacular views of San Diego Bay and the Pacific gray whale migration. Other activities include exploring the tide pools of the rocky intertidal zone and visiting the museum, which features exhibits on the coast artillery, Juan Cabrillo's exploration and the ecosystem of the area.

Know Before You Go:
Film and slide programs about plants, animals and the history of the area are presented in the Visitor Center daily. Call ahead for times and reservations.
When to Go:
The annual migration of whales occurs from December through February, and February through April is when the coastal sage is in peak bloom.
