Editorial Review for The 3rd Corner – by Erin Chambers
The Scene
Though prominent culinary talent and restaurateur Ed Moore owns the place, there is little pretense about the food, the wine or the ambiance at this OB eatery. It looks like a large wine cellar in the basement of an old house, with a charming mish-mash of tables tucked away in the few open corners. Three distinct rooms--bar, cafe, outdoor patio--allow everyone in the diverse crowd to find a comfortable spot to sip and chow.
The Food
The menu is divided into 'smaller stuff' like olive and pate samplers and 'bigger stuff' like grilled salmon. But the more than 800 wines are really the main course here. Browse the open crates and displays throughout the dining room, rather than the menu, for a choice bottle. In cool, backwards style, the wine-savvy servers and 'tenders are happy to help select a snack to go with your grapes.

The ExtrasJoin the in-house wine club for special discounts and dinner invitations.
ParkingThe tiny lot behind the building is often full, and it may take a few minutes of driving around the neighborhood streets to find a spot. But avoid parking in Robb Field after dark.
Know Before You GoThe name 3rd corner signifies its location on the third corner of what was once Ed Moore's restaurant empire at this odd roundabout at the end of West Point Loma Blvd.

I have been to 3rd corner many times. I have had a great time everytime. They have a great wine selection that you can browse and drink or buy while waiting to be seated. I enjoy their cheese plate and all of their salads (the goat cheese spinach one in particular). I flat out crave the baked brie, YUM. I have never had any issues with the service. It does get crowded during Friday Saturday dinner rushes, but I dont normally go then. The best part is, when you look around at all the tables, everyone seems happy.
Pros: Wines and service
Cons: parking, dinner rush crowds

We were very excited to take our out-of-town guest to a cool OB wine bar for his birthday. After picking out our wines, we waited almost 20 minutes for our server to open our bottles (by the way, there is a $5 "corkage fee" AND a $5 "wine here" fee). We then waited over 20 minutes for our server to take our order. The food was very bland and over priced for what we got. What made this an even more terrible experience for us is that every time we started talking loud (which you have to since it is very loud in the restaurant), we would be scolded by our server! When we started singing happy birthday, we were once again scoled by our server and told to keep it down! We were shocked! We have never been met with such rude service as we did at the 3rd Corner. Being native OBcians, we make it a point to keep our money in OB. We are sad to say that we will never go back to 3rd Corner.
Pros: large wine selection
Cons: Servers with bad attitudes, long waits, no parking
