What People Are Saying About Epazote Oceanview Steakhouse

In Short – Spanish tile floors, hacienda archways and warm, rusty colors juxtapose panoramic, Pacific views at Del Mar's one and only oceanfront steakhouse. Formerly known for fajitas, a recent menu-makeover adds spicy sophistication; diners choose from steaks, chops or seafood then customize their meat with a signature rub, glaze or sauce. The center cut beef tenderloin is best with The Epazote rub, a blend of dried chilies. Try any steak or seafood with the orange honey cumin glaze. –

This place was dreadful and led to a very disappointing New Years' Eve for my wife and I;
Where do I begin;
1. First, we were seated at a nice table, but JUST AFTER we were done getting settled in and comfortable, they bounced us from that table for a bigger party. They sat us at a cheesy little table off in the very corner of their patio, where my wife proceeded to FREEZE HER BUTT OFF, because it was an open air patio that had very little heaters and a major draft coming form the plastic tarps they used to enclose it. They said "we'll be happy to get your first round of drinks", but you know, I can buy my own drinks, I can't get back an enjoyable evening.
2.Service was SLOOOOWWWWWW. Yeah it was New Years' Eve, but we got steak and chicken? It shouldn't take 90 minutes to get those to us, especially when my wife is turning into a popsicle!
3. Food was mediocre at BEST! My $39 filet was dry and DON'T order the chipotle-peppercorn dipping sauce unless you like dipping your steak in Nyquil, which is what it tasted like. My wife's chicken with fingerling potatoes had all of two potatoes in it!
My wife and I live in Dana Point and usually go north for trips, Laguna, Malibu, Santa Barbara, etc. and don't get down this way very much, so we were really in the dark as to where to go? I can now tell you....DON'T GO HERE!
a view but that's about it. just don't go

I am appalled by the way I was treated. They sat us down for a nice view. That's the only thing they got right. The food was unseasoned, the plates were old and dirty. When I complained, I got brushed aside. The manager even said it was "interesting." We never saw him again, the coward!
This place is so NOT worth it. They wouldn't know what customer service was if they had a 12-month course on it. HORRIBLE! Pass this one up and spend your cash where they'll actuall work for you!
- Pros: View
- Cons: They don't listen to their customers
Terrible service
by sandiegodiner
Food was decent but service was horrible; soup was served without a spoon and the waiter never came back to check. Drinks were rarely kept full and we had to constantly ask for refills. It took a lot to get someones attention when we wanted to order additional drinks. After we were done and just wanting to leave it even took a long time to get the check. The initial greeting at the table was good but then everything went downhill after that. For what they charge, the service should be much much better; overall quite a disappointing experience.
- Pros: nice view; nice ambience
- Cons: terrible service
