Great Views, Concierge Level great for snacks
by tdubski at Citysearch
My wife and I went to San Diego for a quiet romantic getaway. We loved the Marriott Gaslamp. The concergie level allowed us to snack up without travelling and shopping. The views from our room of the bay and city were magical. We would have liked a pool, but the rooftop lounge worked. And as always - no surprises from Marriott. Just good dependable service.
- Pros: views, rooftop lounge, location
- Cons: no pool
2 star disappointment
by gamehaus at Citysearch
The first "non-smoking" room smelled like an ashtray, the second wasn't any better. The bathroom needs to be remodeled. The window latch was broken. The refrigerator did not keep things cool. The cordless phone didn't work. The TV remote went up a channel, but did not go down -- and the volume buttons did not work. The a/c unit had two settings: freezing cold or off. The two tier elevator system made navigating the hotel frustratingly long.
On the positive side, it was certainly a suite with two living areas -- better with kids. The valet parking was expedient (but expensive @ $25/day).
- Pros: Suites, Downtown location
- Cons: Cleanliness, smell, broken amenities
