“The atmosphere is nice and the service is excellent.”
“The florida red snapper with the tomato rattatouile was amazing.”
“Service is extremely attentive and friendly.”
This place is all about the taste! You can tell they are using fresh produces.
If you are looking for ambience or service, and don't care much about the food, it's probably not the right place for you. But the taste is amazing. The portions are regular size for French standards, i.e. you will be able to taste the desserts and enjoy them.
This is one of the few places in San diego which focuses more on the quality of the food rather than quantity or waitresses... very typical French! :)
Ridiculous Chef. It's unfortuate that "Chef Philippe" is also the owner. If he wasn't, management might be able to tone down his outrageous outbursts, and put him in his place. Several times during our breakfast, we were jolted by his screaming and cursing at the servers in the back. The wall between the kitchen and dining room is terribly thin, exposing customers to the full brunt of this disturbed man. Dishes could be heard being thrown around, and I had to cover my daughter's ears from the expletive-ridden shouts. I truly felt bad for the servers, one busser came out looking like he was going to cry. The food is good, and the chef is all too aware of this. Prima Donna is an accurate term, and the experience suffers greatly for it. Such a shame. I gave it another shot for dinner, but the second time fared no better. It was in the middle of dinner, with a packed dining room, and he still couldn't control himself. It's truly unbelievable, and completely inappropriate for a restaurant of this supposed caliber. I waited tables in college, and don't know how his staff deals with it. I won't be back, it doesn't matter how good the food is, I won't pay to boost some jerk's ego.
Everything is tiny here!.
Very small portions for such high prices.
Extremely nervous waiters serve a prima donna chef, rather than the clientele.
Tiny yet TRULY NOISY dining room.
No music, no ambience.
Uncomfortable wooden cafe-style tables and chairs meant to quickly turn over a table.
Meals and desserts are overhyped by the media reviews
who all fail to mention how truly petit the portions are.
After dessert, the chef sent 4 postage stamp-sized free cookies as "a gift". Hilarious.
We were starving when we left and won't return.
Editorial Review by Erin Chambers. This Santaluz delight holds true to its name with authentic French Provencal cuisine and peaceful, rural setting.
Great Service. Great little spot out near Santa Luz. Service is extremely attentive and friendly. Food is true to its origins and perfectly prepared. If you order a steak and usually get it done medium take the chef's advice of medium rare as this corresponds to more of a medium turnout.
Eat in the south of France without the jet-lag. A must for all you francophiles!!! Best french food I've had in all of California. I had the soupe de poisson (fish soup) and I could have sworn I was back in Cannes. The florida red snapper with the tomato rattatouile was amazing. Can't wait to go back!
