Terrible. I recently had the misfortune to be invited to this establishment in La Jolla. It was empty the entire time we had dinner (a clue, I guess). It was incredibly over priced. The waiter was surly and reached directly in front of my face, not once but twice without any apology. I was amazed overall. The food was poorly spiced and overcooked. I would NOT recomend this place at all.
Beware of price gouging..
I went here with about 10 people to celebrate a birthday party a few years back. We asked for menus, but were told by the owner (or manager) that such a large group was not allowed to order from the menu and that we should just buy a group meal which he promised was going to be very special. The girl whose birthday we were celebrating was vegetarian, so we didn't even order any meat.
The one and only dish we were served (which I don't know the name of) was a big pile of perhaps vegetables, lentils and chickpeas served in kind of a stew that we were told to eat with our fingers. As a dish, it was ok at best but certainly did not constitute a meal given that it was the only course we were served.
The big surprise though was the bill which came out to close to $60 per person even though we ordered only three alcoholic drinks for the entire party. Everyone was really mad and felt like we were ripped off. I''m surprised this place is still in business given all the complaints.
Overpriced, bad food. Avoid at all costs..
I just had dinner here with my wife and we will never be back.
The food was terrible, the service was poor, and the atmosphere was mediocre at best. The food is way, way overpriced ($32.95 for a poorly prepared mixed grill seems in retrospect insane). To top it all off we had a gift certificate to this restaurant and after giving it to the host prior to ordering we noticed that our meals came out much smaller and less well prepared than the identical meals that were ordered at the table next to us. Adding insult to injury, the restaurant charged us tax on the entire bill prior to applying our gift certificate, meaning we effectively paid tax on our gift certificate twice. I didn't bother complaining about this as it seemed like a small slight after being served such overpriced, poorly prepared food.
Eat at this restaurant at your own risk- if your experience was anything like ours you'll regret ever having been there.
Editorial Review by Erin Chambers. With the shimmy of a belly dancer and the shake of a spice jar, La Jolla transforms into Morroco.
