Good food, atmosphere, and happy hour. Su Casa is a very friendly casual restaurant perfect for family outings or for happy hour. We always bring friends from out of town here for the friendly service and dependable Mexican food. La Jolla Suenos is delicious, Dean's Prawns are absolutely indulgent and a must for any fettucine alfredo fan (just don't eat the whole thing! It's HUGE and rich!!), but my favorite is probably the beef tamale that comes in one of the combos (called Yucatan I think). There are no words for the amazingness of this tamale, but suffice it to say that the cornmeal is sprinkled with fresh pieces of corn, and the top of the tamale is bust open, with beef and a delicious ranchero-esque sauce spilled over the top. Heaven. The flan de galletas is also a must-try, and usually results in someone at the table licking the plate. They also have a convenient parking lot outside.
Horrible Experience. This past weekend my family and I had a horrible and gross experience at this restaurant. I ordered the Mojarrita, and everything was fine until i got halfway done with my plate, and noticed something peculiar in the dish. I moved the mojarrita from its place and under it was a large black deep fried C O C K R O A C H. My husband and kids noticed the disgusted look on my face and they saw what i did. We immediately called the server, who was willing to not charge the meal, but was very rude about it. She kept on saying that the building was very old, so it was EXPECTED to have c o c k r o a c h e s, and that i HAD to understand, but not once did she apologize. Once we exited the building, we saw that its rating was an A, and we could not believe that an A restaurant would have c o c k r o a c h e s .Must we simply conform to these low standards just because the building is old?
Reasonable prices and beachside location draw local surf crowd and vacationers in search of south of the border seafood delights..
In Short
Sandals and board shorts are welcome attire at this casual, beachy haunt where Mexican seafood is an appropriate specialty. Since the 1960's, La Jolla natives and tourists have made themselves at home in the cozy dining room complete with fireplace, colorful bar and tropical fish tank. During warmer months al fresco dining is popular; despite where you sit, fresh guacamole is prepared and served tableside. The award winning crab enchiladas are a sure bet entrée.
