In Short – Nestled among popular downtown shops, this busy Japanese restaurant attracts an eclectic mix of locals, college students and La Jolla professionals. A muted decor with basic brown chairs, composite tables and khaki-colored screens provides a soft backdrop for the crafty chefs and bright, saltwater fish tank behind the sushi bar. Here, specialties like inventive Orange Crush, Bruce Lee and Slippery When Wet rolls are made.
Avoid this sushi place

Sushi on the Rock is overpriced, and their sushi is NOT good. We eat a lot of sushi and were excited about trying a new place in La Jolla. The atmosphere is ok, but the sushi is just plain awful. Most rolls are make with artificial Krab, and the rolls that we did order we could barely eat. We left much of the sushi on the table. There are much better sushi places in the La Jolla village - i.e. Tadashi on Prospect.
- Pros: ambience
- Cons: food and service

Great food. Very fresh, great selection. Service can be a little slow because they are VERY BUSY but its worth the wait. A little pricey, but a fair value for the quality you get!
- Pros: parking, SHOPPING -you can browse the stores aroudn it while you wait for a table, YUMMY!!!
- Cons: busy busy busy
Poor customer service

After inquiring about our status on the wait list after the given 30 minutes, we were told that our party had already been sat. When we explained to the hostess that we were still waiting outside where we said we would be, we were told that they were very busy and suggested that we try another restaurant for dinner. We walked down the street to Jack's for sushi and after explaining what had happened to us at Sushi on the Rock, we were promptly seated in a private area, given a free bottle of sake, and two free sushi sampler platters. they wanted to show us how sushi was done right and they definitely did!
