Best Fries in Town. This was my first visit to the Old Mining restaurant. Went here for dinner with co-workers. First impression wasn't that great, as there was nobody at the host stand when we entered. I admit it was late but staff wasn't really enthusiastic. Food however was pretty darn good! The fries here are to die for and the steak was seasoned and cooked perfectly.

Food and services real bad!. California Mining Co.

My wife and I have dinning at your restaurant for five year since we move to N. San Diego.

Your restaurant in San Marcos, CA has been our favorite place. It’s were we dine for our anniversary ever year. We have always loved your Smoke Apple Chicken dinner with garlic mash potatoes.

On Friday 8/07/2009 we again dine there. But the service and the food were terrible. Our chicken was old, dry, and hard to chew. It was greasy, tasted terrible, and the skin was like leather. I even choke on it trying to get it down! On top of all that our waitresses (Channel) never check on us even one time. The only time I saw her was to give us the bill for $ 35.02. Which I wish I had never paid! I am very disappointed with your restaurant. My wife and I have decided to never go there again. I can’t believe it has gotten so bad.

Slow-smoked meats in a rustic San Marcos restaurant.. In Short
Dark woods, mining lanterns, and antique wall decorations create a log cabin feel inside. Situated in North County's Restaurant Row, a complex with about 20 other eateries, this spot attracts families for its old-style décor and generous dinner portions. The meat smoker cooks house specialties like the applewood smoked chicken and peppercon-herb spiced tri tip. End with a slice of boysenberry cobbler-a dessert of sweet berries topped with ice cream.

Amazing Chocolate Cake. These guys have your basic salad bar, hamburgers, steaks etc. The chocolate cake is AMAZING, though. For $7.95 (I always get it to go), I have fed 5-6 adults on that cake - it's HUGE! The bar is also friendly - definitely a 'locals' joint - not a 'pick-up' joint. Lunches and dinners are pretty good. Huge servings.
