Best Truffle Place. I have always loved this restaurant. If you love truffles (mushrooms), you will love this place. This is the Ultimate truffle place, truffle chicken, truffle fries, truffle mac and cheese, truffle grilled cheese sandwich...you get the point.

Ambiance: 4

Food: 5

Service: 4.5

Chef Jeffrey Strauss is usually in the kitchen making your meal, but will ultimately be out in the dining room to check on your meal. He is great host, and really cares about making your meal the best you have eaten.

I ordered two different sampler plates (both get 5 stars). The first was Quail, Duck and Venison. The second sampler was Fillet Mignon, Pork, and Lamb. WOW. And of course, the mandatory order of the truffle fries. They actually have specks of shaved black truffles instead of just truffle oil.

I highly recommend this restaurant!

Bring your gold pen.... Advertised as expensive and met expectations. The service was attentive, the food pricey but the portions were very large and prepared perfectly. Among the best food I've had in San Diego. The duck was fantastic. The only disappointment was the wine list: it was fantastic if you were prepared to spend more than 200, but you could hardly find a bottle of wine under 130 that was worthy of buying. We did find a nice CA Syrah for 150, but it's nice when you can find a great meal AND also find a great value wine to match. Definitely a great restaurant, I will go back for business when I can expense the experience.

Fine French cuisine across from the Del Mar racetrack is a classic special occassion destination.. In Short
Chef Jeffrey Strauss doesn't get too exotic. He selects familiar dishes, then aims to perfect them. At his fine dining establishment in Solana Beach, Strauss serves delicately-seasoned entrees like prime rib eye and basil-roasted Chilean sea bass. Many ingredients come from local farmers and fishermen. Guests sit in an open, relaxed dining area amidst earthy tones and paintings of nature. Private party and catering packages are available.

the critics got it all wrong. this place should not have won best restaurant in san diego.. 300 dollars later (for just 2 people)i am not only upset about my meal i am disappointed with the reviews. the food was a complete disaster. there is nothing french about this place. do not eat at this restaurant expecting that. If i had to classify the cusine, i would say it was southern californian neuvo. there was a large amounts of seafood dishes with avacado and lobster. i had a kim chei appetizer at a cost of 20 bucks) that was seafood coleslaw. it literally tasted like coleslaw. there was nothing kim chei ( about it. I later had the veal milenese and it was deep fried. the bread they served at the table lacked all flavor. the drinks were inconsistant. the salads were terrible. there was no imagination to them at all. the deserts were just as dissappointing. everything served at this place tasted like it was prepped with canned ingredients. and if anything called for a cream dressing, it tasted like they used mayonese. the restaurant is very disceving. it is in a business mall. it sits under a morgage and loan company. but it has been there for 10 years. (how i have no idea). I would not recommend this restaurant for any reason what so ever. there is nothing that you will gain by dining at this location.
