What People Are Saying About Station Sushi

In Short – Just across from the Solana Beach train station, this family-owned sushi spot has a loyal local clientele who come for the sake, the fiery rolls and a laid-back vibe that extends to the outside patio. Start with edamame or miso soup, then check out some special rolls. The Fireball boasts habanero-infused flying fish roe and spicy scallops; for a milder challenge try the Ex-tasy roll with its panko fried halibut with cream cheese and salmon. –

Strike 2... not going back for 3!

by EnciSurfGirl at Citysearch

So the first time I went to Station Sushi, the food was mediocre at best. I was in good company, so I didn't complain. Everyone complained about the service being ridiculously slow, but I did not experience it at the time (but I did visit on a Wednesday evening). Our waitress was friendly and had great suggestions for sake.

I was unsatisfied and didn't plan on returning to the restaurant, but everyone I spoke to had nothing but good things to say about it. Rumors. I returned to the restaurant Friday, September 25, 2009 and I experienced the bad service everyone had spoken of! Our sashimi came out first, then came our drink order. Then our second AND third drink order, finally followed by the one sushi roll we ordered and 20 minutes later we FINALLY received our calamari appetizer! (keep in mind, the first drink order and appetizer were ordered first, followed by the sashimi and the sushi roll, ordered at the same time.) The sushi roll was TERRIBLE. It said it contained fresh king crab, but it was so mushy and seasoned it might as well have been 2 week old immitation crab meat. Neither of us could eat the roll, it was unpalatable.

So! You better believe I will NOT be returning to this establishment. Eat at your own risk!!

  • Pros: Good atmosphere with outdoor dining
  • Cons: bad food, bad services, high prices

Good Sushi-

by faizal at Citysearch

I went here for Friday's lunch to meet with my wife. It was empty- the food was good, the staff friendly. I don't think it's my favourite though.. A bit pricey, but not far off from other sushi place in the area. You got to really look for the place as I pulled up right next to it and didn't see it.

  • Pros: good food

Best Sushi in San Diego

by brookeats at Citysearch

Of all the sushi restaurants I've tried in San Diego, this is the best. Go for the daily (by daily, I mean seven days a week!) happy hour specials and you'll feel like you've struck gold. As mentioned, the Monkey Stick is supreme. Best roll I've ever eaten and it's even made without rice. Two big thumbs up for this beachy sushi bar. I'm on my way now.

  • Pros: Tastiest sushi in San Diego. Yum! Happy Hour until 7 p.m. every day.
  • Cons: The service can be slow during rush hour (aka Happy Hour).
