“the elk was very good”
“we love a great meal and will pay extra for great service”
one of the best steaks i have had. i had such a pleasant experience here. the service was great and thoroughly enjoyed the food. The only thing that it was sort of pricey but i guess for downtown area that is the going rate.
Worst Steakhouse I've been to. I have eaten steaks in various cities and never have I had such a bad experience. The meat was not particularly good and overcooked (which is hard to do when the order is black and blue). The service was terrible and rushed even though the restaurant was empty. This was not a super recent visit, so it is possible they have have improved, but it would have to be a huge change to make the place passable.
Ok Steaks.
Went here based on the excellent reviews it's received here. Have to say that it lived up to them in some respects, fell short in others. The food was good to very good. I don't often mention specific dishes but I think I need to explain. My wife and I went here for our anniversary. We started with the tomato and onion salad with bleu cheese - very good - and the shrimp and lobster bisque - also very good. For a main course I ordered the elk (and my wife had the lobster risotto. The elk was very good but I wished I had gotten the rib-eye (my steak house standard). My wife's risotto was very disappointing. It was really more like Spanish rice with lobster (lots of lobster but I'd kind of expect that since the dish was about $40). The rice they used looked like a long grain rice - not the standard short grain (Aborio) and wasn't creamy at all. For dessert we had the pistachio ice cream - really tasty and a flourless chocolate cake - OK. Now, here's where the service comes in. It was very, very good. We sent the risotto back and within two minutes the manager was there. He apologized, said he'd take it off the bill and buy us a couple of desserts as well as offering another dish. The waiter was very good too and got us a nice wine recommendation.
The atmosphere was very nice (jeans and a nicer shirt is probably fine). Not a great place to bring little kids and parking is very down town-y - we valeted. All-in-all I wouldn't rush back here but I wouldn't avoid it either.
Knats. There were knats in our wine, in the salad, and just flying all over the place. The steak wasn't that good either. The food was cold, the wine list was average. There were no speciality drinks.
Horrible New Year's Eve. New Years Eve night was awful. Meats were pre-cooked as well as the side's. They were sitting on sheets as I went to the restroom. All were medium though we ordered 2 rare, 1 well, and 1 medium. All 4 were cold along with sauces and sides. What a joke for $400.00. If I order a $40 filet and ask that it be rare, without sauce or shoestring potatoes, I expect it to show up that way, not the same way as every other filet is served. Neither the server or anyone else seemed to care. It was a busy night and they wanted their money one way or another. Our group will never be back. Also, our reservation was for 9:00 and we got in at 9:45. On a good note, the ambiance was beautiful. However, the service and food was so disappointing that we won't go back.
