NEVER AGAIN!. NEVER AGAIN we will we return! My husband and I have been Encintas locals for over 30 years. We had a coupon from Coastal Magazine, which is what brought us in there. Great place, good food, HORRIBLE OWNER.

Our waiter didnt inform us that only certain martini's are on happy hour, after we just asked him all about the happy hour in general. We didnt have a problem paying $10 for a martini, but we wanted to inform the owner that the mini menu was a bit misleading. The owner was so defensive, and impulsive- that he ended up calling my husband a "JACKASS". Whoa...... not what we were expecting. He seemed to be very frusterated that we were using a coupon, and made the comment "what are you guys complaining about, you got a free meal." My question is why are you offering discounts which bring in new customers and then your treat your customers disrespectfully? Doesnt that defeat your purpose.....?

The worst steak I have ever had - Chef has poor standards!. We had reservations for a party of 4 during restaurant week. Even though our reservation was made well in advance, and confirmed ahead of time, we still waited 20 minutes before being seated.

3 out of 4 people in our party ordered the "grilled black angus new york strip steak in a port wine reduction", which we all ordered MEDIUM RARE. One person received a medium rare steak, one person received a medium-well steak, and I received a medium steak with a 1/4 inch layer of charcoal covering the top. None of the other people received a steak with a layer of charcoal on the steak.

When the server returned to check on us, and asked if the steak was cooked correctly, I politely and apologetically told her that my steak was burnt (And we're talking this tasted like kingsford charcoal it was so badly burnt). She took it back to have the chef cook a new steak, and what I received back was even worse than the first one!

The second steak tasted like it had been microwaved, then thrown on the grill for 5 seconds to give it a couple of "grill marks". It was extremely WELL DONE, dry, and tough as shoe leather. I ate one bite and almost choked because it was so incredibly disgusting and inedible. I can't believe how poor the chef's standards are that he would serve a steak to any customer in that condition! This was truly the WORST steak I have ever had at a restaurant in my entire life. I was equally shocked, that even though I didn't eat any my steak - I only ate the carrots and potatoes - the manager and server didn't try to make things right.

I would NOT recommend this restaurant to anyone, ever. Obviously the chef has very poor standards, and takes no pride in the food he serves. Please don't waste your money. And all of this was during restaurant week - when they are TRYING to ATTRACT business, so their standards should be the highest.

Truly great wine bar and restaurant. So, after going to the same places in Encinitas over the last 3 years it was time to try a new place. My husband and I have been to Firefly 3 times in the last 3 weeks, after trying it on a whim for the first time, and absolutely love the ambiance, wine, food and customer service. The menu is always changing but I had the most amazing filet with the fig wine sauce that was cooked to perfection.

The owner is so friendly and welcomed us back on our 2nd trip back (how nice of him to remember). A great place to take friends and family to for wine and cocktails at the bar (try the cheese plate) and wonderful for dinner too. Truly one of our new favorites!

The North County hot spot offers an international wine list and delicately-seasoned, California cuisine.. In Short
At this Encinitas wine bar and restaurant, customers can select an atmosphere to complement the wine. Opt for a dry white for the outside patio, a medium red to savor inside the warm orange hues of the dining room, or something a little more bold in the separate lounge area. If you're there for the main course, try something grilled--the rosemary quail and lemon glazed salmon are standouts.
