“good food cheap”
Just ok.
I think I too went in with high expectations -- and was a bit disappointed. The breads were yummy, the customer service was very good. I got the chicken & dumplings -- way too much food for someone to eat -- guess some people like that -- but I go more for the quality rather than quantity. The choices of salads are great -- I opted for the potato soup. It was grainy -- and lacked something--couldn't put my finger on -- maybe just some cream or something. It wasn't rich. I was expectating something special with the warm applesauce -- but it tasted just like store bought applesauce that someone heated up. Could that be right?
I watched the Food Network episode that featured Hob Nob Hill and the Chix & Dumplings looked so yummy. I guess if they make the dumplings for you fresh -- they would be yummy.. but mine tasted dry and old.
We wouldn't go back again -- but I think older people might like it for the value they get for the price they pay. The restaurant is kind of cool -- very old fashioned .. guess they would call that retro these days!
A blast from the past!. Good food at an old-fashioned place! The breaskfast is really, really good. Go for the benedict with spinach, the florentine. You'll gain 10 lbs. but its worth it!
Didn't meet expectations. Customer service was amazing, the food wasn't as great as the other review said it was. Maybe we tried the wrong stuff or maybe I went in with too high expectations, but it just wasn't what I was looking for. My friend got prime rib, which he said looked and tasted like roast beef. The turkey dish I got was alright, but it just didn't have the home-cooked taste I was looking for. Plates were pretty small also. We got there a little before 7p on a Saturday and there was plenty of parking so if you are worried just get there a bit earlier to avoid the rush. The pricing were all around the 12-17 dollar range.
THE BEST BREAKFAST PERIOD. THIS PLACE ROCKS,THEY BAKE ALL THEIR STUFF SCRATCH,HOME MADE CORNED BEEF OR ROAST BEEF HASH,BEST I HAVE HAD,DINNER IS GREAT A 11 IN MY BOOK
