***ASSAULTED BY FLOOR MEN and DOORMAN BEFORE CLOSE***
***Similar Experience?**Contact me...PLEASE!!**
I visited Jimmy Love's this past Saturday night and ended up with the worst experience of my life. My fiance and I arrived late at about 1:15 a.m. hoping to make last call. It was our second stop as we went out late at about 12:30 a.m. Needless to say we only had time for a total of two drinks each between both places we visited. Jimmy Loves seemed nice and we were wrapping up our night. We searched for a restroom before realizing it was downstairs and while using it we heard the DJ announce "last call".
We hurried back upstairs and made our way to the bar and ordered a drink just past 1:30 a.m. We were enjoying our drinks and a large group next to us was ordering more as the bartenders were pouring. Problem is that several floor men in suits were moving through the bar telling people. "You gotta leave people, we're closed" They were becoming progressively rude and aggressive.
I finished my drink and my fiance was in the process of finishing when one floor man came up behind me and said. "You gotta go, let's go we're closed". I jokingly said that "your bar tender is still pouring", he responded "he works here." I then turned to him and annoyed I said that we'd "leave in a second, my girl's finishing". I turned back to my fiance with my back to him and her eyes got big as he was snapping his fingers signaling for help.
It happened so fast. the man behind me grabbed me and began to push, three others came over to grab, twist and push be towards the door. The door man took over and twisted my right arm and body as he shoved me and I stumbled to keep from falling. I was moving unnaturally and my stumble resulted in a pop and stabbing feel in my back. I respect that they could not have known about my spinal condition that I have been treated for over the last several weeks and is documented. This is why you don't initiate an unnecessary physical response to a verbal exchange. They were completely unprovoked and in fact were still serving others.
There is some serious issues with communication between floor men and bar tenders at closing time. My fiance went back after incident in order to get staff names and management info. You can imagine she was intimidated and scared by the door man that finished the assault and yet asked for the info. He provided a card and offered no apology or made any effort to see if they had hurt me. I've been in bed with serious compression issues in my lower back for two days. My previous condition is much worse now, THANKS!.
I went back after to discuss or make a report and the door man said sarcastically "did you get your card?" I asked his name and he said tell them "Stephen" while the other door man laughed and said "I'm Billy Bob" as they shut the doors on me.
I spoke to a police officer parked across the street and he advised that a report should be made. I intend to rectify this with management, police, and with the help of any third parties. I feel that my treatment was fueled some macho floor men that could not exercise restraint in closing their establishment. Police were standing at the corner, in fact they were everywhere!
Total overreaction and bad decision making by the floor men. Their standard would mean that grocery stores, shopping malls, restaurants and more would be forcing people out if they perceived them as discourteous. Imagine a cashier snapping her fingers and saying this person was rude or sarcastic and several people would come and grab, twist, push and hurt them upon their forced removal. This is the world they are living in and because they are a bar/nightclub that is no excuse to initiate physical action without physical provocation or breaking up a fight.

Blacks not wanted!.
It saddens me mainly because, as someone whose worked in the hospitality industry for years, I've always felt at home in a nightclub setting. I know how hard servers, bartenders, and bar backs work in order to please the customers. And I make it a point to leave generous tips of at least 20%.
As a regular I enjoyed the live music and atmosphere (in spite of the overpriced drinks). However I began to notice a disturbing pattern of behavior amongst the bartenders and doormen. Blacks are routinely given the cold shoulder. I myself was asked to leave because a bartender did not like how close I was getting with a white woman.
I have seen this before with other black patrons, but never seriously considered it an issue until they made me a target. I come from a very liberal background so discrimination based on race is something I would mention only after careful examination and only after ruling out every other possible explanation.
If you're white (or appear to be) you have free reign to act and behave in any manner you choose. I've seen drunken white guys dressed in tattered old t-shirts who cause a scene, be rude to the wait staff, and then stiff the bartenders on tips. And even they received better treatment than blacks.
I've spoken to Eric one of the general managers about this. He's a very nice guy. He invited me back and even gave me a drink on the house. And yet the discriminatory practices of his staff continues. And that leads me to believe management isn't fully aware of what's going on from day to day.
If you're white (especially female) you'll have a great time at Jimmy Love's, regardless of how you behave or dress. But if you're black or some other minority (male in particular) it won't matter how formally dressed or how well-behaved you are. You will be treated as if you don't belong.
So if you're black, save yourself the humiliation of being constantly scrutinized and skip Jimmy Love's. Instead go a block down to Stage Bar and Grill. There you'll find great live music, friendly staff, and reasonably priced drinks.
A horrible Jazz Festival experience here.... I ordered food and two drinks to watch a Gaslamp Jazz fest act. As soon as I finished and the music started they said I had to order more to be able to stay. The waitress blamed it on the manager. The manager just kept saying "you're good, you're good". He never could explain why I was hassled. I get the minimum order requirement, but a meal and two drinks in 40 minutes and they wanted MORE? I will never go there again. It's a shame they won't care, but never never again!!!
Suck my ass.
This place was by far the worst place I have ever eaten. If you enjoy soggy, expensive food, with horrible service, and an outrageous tab, then...THIS IS THE PLACE FOR YOU!!! I saw duck's with botchulism squirt feces all over the pavement at the San Diego Zoo and would rather get on my hands and knees and lick it up than ever eat here again. Sounds harsh? No really. I mean it. I am writing this as a favor to any future visitors to San Diego. If you are looking for a dining experience of lifetime, travel a little ways north to "The Poseidon" restaurant in Del Mar, it features dining on the shore with a beautiful view of the ocean, great food, and 5-star service. I beg of you, please....please...please...heed my warning and eat elsewhere.
Poor service, blase food, tourist magnet. We live downtown and have tried Jimmy Love's several times each year (as far back as when it was Johnny Love's before they had to change their name) , but after our last visit last week we are unlikely to return. We try to support locally owned businesses, but as years have passed, the service has deteriorated, the food become sub-standard and the attitude more about who else they can squeeze in and get to buy the most drinks. We are all for making a profit - but not at the expense of selling out. The place has lost any class that it had. Service is slow - took 20 minutes just to get a menu. In a party of 4, 3 of the orders (simple on-menu items) were wrong and we were only able to get one completely corrected after nearly 40 minutes. The items that we were served were not of high quality relative to the prices charged, and two of them were so salty they were barely edible. We saw the owner and asked to speak to him - he ignored us (too busy cozying up - VERY close - to a young blonde at the bar - wonder if his wife and kids were at home?). The manager spent about 2 minutes talking to us but did nothing to correct the problem. We decided to leave and when our bill arrived there were several drinks on it that were not ours. Spent another 15 minutes trying to get the bill corrected - no apology, just attitude. If you want to be treated poorly and pay for low-quality food, this is your place. Otherwise, try one of the many other locally owned, independent restaurants in the Gaslamp. Please do NOT judge the Gaslamp by Jimmy Love's!!
Great Food, Service, and Night Life. I don't understand how anyone could say anything bad about Jimmy Love's! Jimmy Love's is like the heartbeat of the gaslamp. It doesn't matter where I have lived; whenever I am in the neighborhood I love to venture to Jimmy's where the asmosphere is always comfortable, the staff is friendly, and the night life is amazing. I love hanging out with my friends and dancing to all the songs that EVERYONE knows. Just last weekend my girlfirend had her 24th birthday bash there... what a blast! Thanks Jimmy Love's....for being the best bar in all of downtown San Diego! You can bet I...I mean WE will be back!
HORRIBLE SERVICE!!!!!!!!!!. THE SERVICE WAS HORRIBLE! MY GIRLFRIEND AND I WENT OUT FOR A DRINK AND THE WAITRESS DID NOT COME SERVE US UNTIL ABOUT 30 MIN. LATER THEN ONCE WE ORDERED SHE ONLY CAME BACK WITH ONE DRINK STSATIN THAT MY FRIEND DID NOT ORDER A DRINK WHICH WAS A TOTAL LIE! SO SHE KIND OF GOT AN ATTITUDE, MAYBE SHE WAS ALREADY IN A BAD MOOD BU THEN SHE CALLED MY FRIEND OUT OF HER NAME...WHICH MADE MY FRIEND UPSET AND THE MANAGER CAME OVER AND HIS ATTITUDE WAS EVEN WORSE THAN HERS. WE NEVER GOT OUR DRINKS JUST A GLASS OF WATER THEN AFTER SPEAKING TO HIM HE SUGGESTED THAT WE JUST GO TO ANOTHER RESTARAUNT I FELT HORRIBLE HE BASICALLY PUT US OUT FOR WHAT? WE ASKED HIM WHY DO WE HAVE TO LEAVE HE STATED THAT HE IS RUFUSING US SERVICE AND TOOK OUR WATERS BACK (WOW).. NO APOLOGY FOR THE WAITRESS WITH NO CUSTOMER SERVICE BECAUSE THE MANAGER WAS JUST AS BAD.. VERY EMBARRASSING IF YOU HAVE GUEST I WILL NEVER DINE THERE AGAIN.. NEVER! NO CLASS AT ALL!!!!!!A BUNCH OF NO CLASS WAITRESSES AND SUPERVISORS SOUND ABOU RIGHT IN THE CHAIN OF COMMAND IN THE BUSINESS WORLD!
AMAZING DINNER, SERVICE, AND LIVE ENTERTAINMENT. This was one of the best nights I had out in a long time! My boyfriend and I went for an early dinner. We were pleased to learn that there would be live Jazz Entertainment. We ordered the artichoke dip for an appetizer (which was amazing!) and I had the New York Steak and my boyfriend had the surf & turf (both delicious!). A couple drinks and dessert later we were shocked that for such an incredibly delicious dinner our bill was not even a hundred dollars! Our service was excellent and our server even convinced us to stay later for the DJ when the band ended. We danced the night away to 80s music and are still smiling days later at what a great night out we had. Thanks Jimmy Love's...we WILL be back!
most horrible customer service. I was there for dinner on Saturday 4/21/07 (absolutely not a crowded/packed night) and will never go back again. I have never experienced such horrendous service at any restaurant. We sat down around 7:30pm, and the waitress came around to take our order shortly afterwards. At 8:45pm, the only things on our table was one glass of water per person and one basket of bread, which by now all the bread was already gone obviously. The last time we saw our waitress at all, was when she came by to take our order at 7:40pm. I think if the food was going to take forever, she should have at least come by to apologize so that at least we wouldn?t be sitting there wondering whether or not we should leave. Then about 10 minutes later the food finally comes. We finished about 9:20pm, and asked the waitress for the check, but we didn?t actually get it until 20 minutes later. So now that we have the check, we?re ready to pay and get out of here. But no one wanted to take the payment. So it was getting really close to 10pm already and we decided to just ask whoever comes by next, and so the lady we asked said we need to give that to our waitress but we told her our waitress didn?t want to take care of it because she passed by like 10 times but still didn?t take it. So she gave us arguing with us and took it and when the waitress brought it back finally for us to sign the credit card slip, she didn?t even apologize for what she did and just pretended like nothing happened. I don?t know if she was just blind or what, but this kind of service is absolutely unacceptable for any restaurant.
