GREAT Crowd. Everytime I come here I get picked up by Cougars. I love this place! The best in town for sure. The staff and bouncers kinda suck, but who cares. I got me my sugar mama!

TERRIBLE DO NOT GO HERE. I wish I could give 0 stars. WOW!!! We are a couple in our late 20's and this bar - especially the bouncers - are TERRIBLE!!!! We went to this bar after a nice dinner and were denied. The bouncer was so pompous and made up a story about denying us entry. He was incorrect about our route to the bar where he said we were "stumbling". He incorrectly said the street we crossed to get to the bar and was rude when we challenged him. When we asked for the manager he said he was the manager, but with further inquiry he finally brought the bar manager out, who was even worse than the bouncer – his name is Frank Miller. He is the most rude non -professional bar manager I have ever encountered, not only did he not listen to our articulate recollection of how we approached the bar but he was down right rude. In the meantime, while we were talking to the rude Frank Miller, the same bouncer let in a group of drunken 22 year olds further angering us. PLEASE do not go to this bar it is not fun and the bouncer and Frank Miller are a JOKE. We are a couple that go to downtown once a month and are amazed that we were treating as we were. I wish I could do something more then write this review to get everybody at this bar fired and out on the street, like they deserve. THIS BAR IS TERRIBLE!!!!!!

Old-school charm amidst the boisterous Fifth Ave. crowds. My uncle and I strolled Fifth Ave. on a late Friday afternoon, looking for a decent bar with at least ONE attractive woman inside... it was still fairly early, so the odds were against us. Finally, after passing up about a half-dozen spots, we saw The Bitter End, with its well-dressed doorman, hot hostess and cocktail waitress, brass railings and dark wood trim. How bad could it be? We went inside and were served up some vodka and tonics by a friendly guy. We watched a slew of music videos on their flat panels (Black Eyed Peas, Madonna, etc.) and people-watched for a few hours over our refills. We saw a bit of everything that the Gaslamp has to offer on a Friday night: skinny Asians in heels, military guys in their uniforms, overweight middle-aged white women, and cocky bedhead dudes. When my uncle's hot friend met up with us later, we headed upstairs to the "let's party while the parents are out of town" faux study, complete with dark wood paneling, well-stocked bookshelves, comfy leather couches, and a hot cocktail waitress from Virginia! All in all, a great spot to hang out.

A bad frat party with a heavy price tag. Don't go there expecting it to be like the one in San Francisco. I'm sure this is a decent bar when there is only about a dozen people which may occur on Sunday mornings.

But on the weekends :

Stay at groundlevel if you want to spend thirty minutes trying to get a drink only to have it all spilt on you because there is nowhere to escape people bumping into you.

Go downstairs if you like being crammed into a basement, with bad music and stupid people trying to dry bump you.

Go upstairs if you want to pay a ton of money to be at a bar for no reason other than to waste money.

Editorial Review. Tri-level bar draws a Gaslamp party crowd for cocktails, pool and dancing to spun DJ tunes on weekends.

Good, fun cocktail bar.. This is now my first stop whenever I visit the Gaslamp Quarter. The Bitter End is simply a cocktail bar that doesn't burden itself by trying to be a restaurant. Just good cocktails and some simple bar food. Great decore, EXCELLENT liquor menu with good pricing. Service was great. Enjoy.

Great bar right in the heart of the gas lamp!. This is a great bar for whatver scene you are looking for. I have gone here on many occassions during happy hour and there is a pretty good crowd. On the weekends the bar is also usually crowded and the downstairs area has plenty of room to dance. The crowd is very diverse and tends to be a little younger. Great place to have drink if you are visiting San Diego or if you live in the area.
