Editorial Review for 1500 Ocean – by Erin Chambers
In Short
Walking up the famed waterfront path to the patio entrance, it's easy to picture The Del's back-in-the-day regulars like Marilyn Monroe or Ronald Reagan inside on the wing chairs sipping martinis. But certain touches like cloth cabana seating, potted palms and wooden shutters take just enough old-fashioned edge off the dining room, keeping it beachy and breezy. Jason Shaeffer's fresh new menu is focused largely on flavors and seafood from the Southern California and Baja regions.

Insider Tips
Where to SitPrivate parties of up to 10 may reserve the Private Cabana room for extra-personal service and a perch just outside the wine cellar.
ParkingIf you choose to self park at the hotel rather than valet, be sure to have the maitre d' validate your ticket. Otherwise it's about $20 for the evening.
The ExtrasOn a slow night, ask your server for a tour of the wine room. He or she will be happy to oblige.
Fun FactChef Jason Shaeffer honed his skills previously at Winesellar & Brasserie, Laurel and most recently at Per Se in New York City.

expensive, but amazing food. we had this great austrailian waiter, wish i could remember his name. it's about time the del got a nice restauarnt again. now they just need to give those rooms a makeover, and it might just start attracting celebrities and heads of state again.
