Nicky Rotten's!. Right on 5th and Market in the Gaslamp, this is quite honestly my favorite burger out there! The service is great also.... They show every UFC Pay-Per-View and also Boxing events! Go check it out for yourself!!!
Ive only came here once, will be back again. I found this burger joint on a whim and I was very impressed with it. It turned out to be very tasty, and the fries were fantastic as well. I will definitely be back here in the near future.
Nicky Rottens – Sports Bar Designed Perfectly.
San Diego is a wonderful city that is filled with numerous hotels and bars. But if you want to add extra fun to your life, then visit Nicky Rottens. Beer, burgers, and all different types of sports activities make it one of the best sports bars in Dowtown San Diego. Being the age 50 is never a barrier for me, when I am in the mood to cut loose. It was a brisk Sunday evening as I entered the Gaslamp District.
Without hesitation, I entered into this sports bar to start my night. I was amazed; the interior was designed classically with black leather, brick and oak. This gave the bar a unique look and perfect hangout destination for sports events. I saw big television screens that were in prime position for watching Sunday Night Football.
The menu offered at Nicky Rottens was outstanding and I ordered Aple’s Sloppy Sliders, Chicken Lettuce Wraps and a bottle of Corona. The price was affordable and the portions were huge. I finished my meal and then ordered a bottle of Wyders Pear Cider. It was marvelous. It was really smooth and refreshing.
Nicky Rottens offers specials on Monday, Tuesday, Saturday and Sunday and shows the UFC Fights. On Friday and Saturday resident DJ “The Mad Caballero” performs. I don’t get down to the Gaslamp too often, but now that I have experienced Nicky Rottens, I know I’ll be back real soon.
Three words: Great Vegetarian Burger!. I make it over to Nicky Rottens often because I work close and their vegi burgers are really good. Usually when I order vegetarian burgers from other places it leaves a lot to be desired, probably the patty's they use. Anyway, I always take clients or coworkers there and the food comes out fast and is always good. I recommend the Hoffa burger, if you like jalepenos, or the Stinky burger with the messy blue cheese. Now, I can't personally vouch for the non-vegi burgers but everyone I take there are highly impressed. As for the other menu items, I haven't tried anything else and in my opinion I don't need to. I find their staff to be very nice and accomidating when ordering so I highly recommend them and to every vegetarian who still likes burgers, this is the place! And those who seek real beef, my friends say it is outstanding!
Roten Staff Roten Restaurant. I recently heard about a new burger place in downtown sd and decided to give it a try.. I attended this establishment or I should say tried to on a sunday afternoon.. Padres were away so it was pretty dead.. My guest and I arive at the front and proceed to walk in and are stopped by a rude doorman saying that he needs to check ID's.. I said we are just here to eat not drink.. He then says that you need to be 21 to enter I said isn't this a resturant said yes and bar and that you can't go in if you are under 21.. I've never heard of a resturant not allowing people to enter because of age.. I can see if it was after 9 or 10 on a friday or saturday night but it was a sunday afternoon at 3 o'clock.. Why can't the waiters or bartenders check ID's like they do at every other restuarant in the world.. The doorman then proceeded to say we could take the food to go I'm like where are we supposed to eat it on the curb out front.. I will never go back to this place I don't even need to try the food because the staff will ruin the expirence before you even get the food.. for the brief minute I was there I looked inside and there was only about 4 people and 2 outside.. Also from the other people I talked to about this place they said I didn't miss out on anything and would choose in and out over their burgers.. So bassically their name lives up to their resturant nicky's roten is a roten restaurant.. Don't waste your time at this place!
great place to get a burger fix.
I was in San Diego for 10 days on business and staying in the Manchester Grand Hyatt, which is an over priced stay in yuppie hell.
I had tried to get a burger in a couple of places and they were horrible and $16.00 to boot!
I finally met a cop on the beat named Dave and asked him where I could find a great hamburger, and man he was right. BTW Dave - Thanks!
I finally got a great burger and was finally satisfied with a real meal. I highly recommend this place if you need a burger fix. Mind you, it is a huge burger and will make you feel like you swallowed a bowling ball, but that is the point, right?
So, if you get a chance, stop here and pig out.
As for the atmosphere it was nice, the staff were nice and attentive. The music was a tad loud 80's rock & pop, it could make a coversation a bit difficult.
surprisingly great food at a cheap food price!. New to town, I asked local friends for suggestions. One friend offered Nicky Rotten's. I was a little sceptical because it's located downtown in the Gaslamp district. I didn't want to spend too much for lunch. We started off with Fried Zucchini slices that were sooo good! Then we all ended up getting the same burger ("Bacavo") and it was fabulous! I'm not sure if it was a manager, or just some random guy that worked there, but someone came over to our table and gave us the history of Avacados in California. Friendly staff. Definitely will be back.
Stiff drinks, simple snacks and no cover make for a rotten good time at "The Godfather" of Gaslamp watering holes..
In Short
John Gotti and other Italian mobsters stand immortalized on the walls of the long, narrow bar with large windows that open to reveal seating on Fifth Avenue. Burgers and booze are served at the handful of tall tables, and Nick--aka Nicky Rotten--is always either at the door or behind the bar chatting up the regulars. The service and bar staffs could easily all be his cousins, as the vibe is unmistakably "in the family."
Cool vibe. This place is pretty new, but I think it's going to do well. I've been a few times, and each time, I'm able to just stop in, get a table, have a few drinks, and not have to deal with all the crowds, drunk people etc. of most fifth ave bars. But beware that the burgers ate huge! Plenty to split between two girls.
