Originally named the Old Bayou Room, the Lafayette's lobby lounge draws a mix of hotel guests and older locals who come during the afternoons for a game of pool or an outside drink. Music is usually controlled through the jukebox, but jazz musicians perform some nights. On Sundays, join the party on the pool deck with live DJ tunes; he usually spins an upbeat house music blend. On the bar menu, find burgers, chicken sandwiches and quesadillas.
Hit it: Old-school San Diegans, the neighborhood crowd or anyone looking for a chill, dressed-down, mature scene.
Skip it: If you rely on the restroom attendant for gum or insist on valet parking.
