Best Indian Food!. I have been going to Royal India since they first opened and the food is just amazing! My favorite dish is the Chicken Tikka Masala and it's really wonderful that they offer it on the buffet menu. The samosas are a delightful treat along with other tantalizing choices! The staff are always very friendly and helpful and the ambiance is very elegant!
The Best Indian Food !. I am kinda new in citysearch but I am an expert when it comes to Indian food. I have to be honest I had my best Indian food yesterday when my friends invited me to try the Royal food! That was something magic that I can`t even describe now. The lamb was cooked so incredibly good that I wanted to lick my plate. My dish was spicy and wonderful. The bread called Garlic nan was so tasty that I ordered another one. The drinks menu was also adorable. My Indian beer was refreshing and yummy. Oh man I want that food now. It was Saturday and the restaurant was very busy but the service was great . The beautiful server was keep checking our table and the Indian guy was keep changing our plates. The place was designed nicely . I am so happy I had a chance to try the Royal Indian food .
Embarrassingly Bad. I come to San Diego about twice a year and enjoy the gaslamp district greatly. I was especially excited this year about coming to Royal India for dinner with a select group of friends. I made a reservation nearly a week in advance this year to make sure that I could easily get a table for four since I was coming during a large convention. I can't say enough about the low quality of service I received. We were rushed to order, rushed to eat, and then whenever we actually needed someone who was part of the staff, we received no attention. In addition, two members of my party were african american and the attitude of the waiter was disgraceful towards my friends. I am very sorry to say I will never return.
During 36000 people convention in town and three hour wait we tried and most customers were very happy and and were understanding and came to Royal India at least twice during their one week visit. FYI everyone is treated equally at Royal India and our best friend is African American as well. We have very regular African American customers and they go very happy from the restaurant.
Missing Curry Dinner.
Drove down from LA to celebrate a friends birthday at the San Diego Zoo. After a long day, we decided to have dinner in the Gaslamp District. One of my friends recommended the Cafe Sevilla for tapas. Unfortunately, it has closed or moved. It's been a few years since I've been to SD. So we didn't know what we really wanted. Didn't want a loud sports bar. Didn't feel like Hooters. But I could go for some good curry. So we decided on the Royal India restaurant on Market street. It didn't look busy (Sunday night, to be expected.) So we decided to give it try.
The dining room is nicely decorated and the wait staff seems ready to handle customer. I guess looks truly can be deceiving. Our waitress gave us our menu and made some recommendations. She then, disappear. What seems like a very long wait, we motion for the young lady at the register. We told her we were ready to place our order. She said our waitress was tied up with a large (8 people) party and that she would take our order. My friend Suzy gave her order first. She and the birthday boy decided they would order family style (all food is placed in serving dishes on the table). I gave the second order for the Chicken Curry with Pineapple. Follow by the other two in the party. It must have been at least 15 minutes and all we had is water on the table. As waitress pass, we asked if we could have the Nan or some bread. She apologized and blamed it on the large party at the back of the room (which had grown to 10 people).
Finally, the food started to arrived. Everything arrived except the Chicken Curry with Pineapple. I'm waiting and waiting (at this point, I'm thinking the wait crew needs to be retrained). Called for the waitress and told her that I was missing my dinner. She when to check, upon her return, she said the waitress who took the order, neglected to enter it into the computer. She offered to enter the order. Since we had a long drive back to L.A., I decline (no curry for me). Made a small plate from my friends dishes.
I've never written a restaurant review, but this got under my skin and I decided to get it off my chest. At first, we decided we wouldn't leave a tip. But I guess you might say the state of the worlds economy got the best of me. So, we decided to leave 10% on what should have been a 20% tip dinner. So, needless to say, I won't be dining at Royal India again.
(Otherwise Mrs. Lincoln, how did you like the play?)

Great Indian Restaurant: I have just come back from Royal India restaurant, and I have had such an amazing time.
The food was absolutely delicious, great taste of North Indian food. Royal India has all the top dishes.
After great experience at Royal India I would recommend to visit at least once, and I can guarantee you will be back for more, every time you think of a great indian cuisine.
Very happy with Indian food. It has been a wile since I had Indian food and the spice, the aroma and the quality of food at Royal India was A plus. I was very happy with the quality of Royal India's food and will be back.
The best spicy Indian food I ever had. I loved the spicy chilli ginger masala with garlic nan. Oh my it was the best spicy dish I ever had.
Reasonable priced and excellent Indian restaurant.
A friend and I wanted to find a good place to eat in the gaslamp area and saw Royal India and decided to eat there.
The staff was very helpful, prices reasonable and the food was excellent - we had butter chicken, chana masala and lamb vindaloo and we loved all three dishes.
We were the only table of non-natives (Indians) in the restaurant - a great sign to gauge how authentic (and in this case tasty) the food was.
I would highly recommend Royal India to anyone who likes Indian food.
