"Who Rocks the Fries? The Belgian Frie!!!"
February 18, 2008 - This is my new favorite spot in San Diego! The fries are perfect, just enough texture on the outside to compliment the flaky goodness on the inside. My favorite dishes are the fries rancheros, the fries benedict, and if you like waffles, skip the IHOP or Kono's and get a plate full of luscious, Belgian-waffle decadence! Like fruit? Chocolate? How about healthy? This restaurant literally has something for everyone. The staff is friendly and attentive, and i've never left the place without multiple smiles and goodbyes. I've traveled to Europe a couple of times, and you can't get any more authentic cuisine than at this frite shop. The decor, the friendly, welcoming atmosphere, and the food all shout authenticity! The owners of this place are really onto something, and I hope I see this place do well enough to branch out. Support your local businesses ya'll! Do your part to keep this hidden gem thriving in our fine city!

i went with 8 friends i was on vacation with and everybody loved their breakfast at The Belgian Frie! I got the fresh granola bowl with milk and it was looooaded with tons of fresh strawberries, bananas and blueberries. I tried several bites of different friends waffles and the batter was amazing and everything tasted so great! There is probably around 15 different waffle items on the menu and every single one sounded really good. There also were eggs, smoothies and sammys along with their fries and tons of dipping sauces. There was a super cute girl working at the counter with an accent and she was so sweet and funny and told us of a "hidden" bike rental place that woulnt have a several hour waiting list on bike rentals.
The Details on Belgian Frie -- CLOSED
Fun Fact:
French fries may have actually originated in Belgium. Legend has it that Thomas Jefferson tasted them and first deemed them potatoes fried in the French manner because he was in the French-speaking area of southern Belgium.
Know Before You Go:
The special technique involves soaking the potatoes to remove excess starch, then frying them twice for an extra crips exterior that's still soft inside.
The Extras:
The fries are the main attraction, but there is also a small nibbles menu of other Belgian specialties like bratwurst and meatballs.
