In Short – Taking a page from the South Beach book of nightlife, whispy palms and sheer white fabric adorn the The Ivy's rooftop oasis. Aside from one of the better views of downtown--you can see all the way from Golden Hill around to the Harbor--Eden also boasts one of the largest rooftop decks. Beautiful people pick and choose mingling scenes from the cabanas by the pool, the center bar/lounge or a covered DJ-and-dancing area.

Rude Service and Tacky Scene

by RCLA21 at Citysearch

To begin, a friend and I went to the Ivy on a Saturday night. The bartender was incredibly rude to us, as if it were an inconvenience to pour us a drink. We ordered two glasses of Veuve Cliquot champagne for $20 each (the only option by the glass) which tasted like acidic grape fruit juice. The champagne had obviously been left open and/or exposed to temperature changes so I asked the bartender for a new drink (the cheap plastic glasses were also dirty with water stains). He told me that the champagne had not been exposed to temperature changes (as if he has been with the bottle from the time of distribution to the time it reached my glass) but he did agree to exchange the champagne for another drink. There is a serious lack of seating on the rooftop (unless you pay for a table) and the glass windows surrounding the perimeter of the deck are digustingly filthy. The bathroom design attempts to be modern and edgy by having one sink/wash area for both the men and the women, but it just doesn't work here. It gets overly crowded and I don't need to face a strange man while putting on lipstick in the bathroom. The crowd is an amateur one at best, with several bachelor/bachelorette parties, meat-headed "tough" guys, and trashy girls. I suppose the real issue I have with this place is that it tries to present itself as some classy, chic, and glamorous club, when in reality it is tasteless and tacky not to mention having a rude staff. Overall, the venue itself has the potential to be a great rooftop lounge, but the staff's lack of professionalism and the clientele's lack of style makes Eden an undesirable destination for those wanting a sophisticated, stylish, and fun evening out.

Never Again

by GC238 at Citysearch

We went to the Ivy this past weekend and will never go again. The people at the door were rude and stuck up. we finally reached our party that had vip on the top and the waitress we had was horrible if you would ask for a drink from the bar she would give a attitude and would tell you it would be a long wait. If and when she would come back and serve from the bottle we had she made you so extremely uncomfortable with her attitude. We will never go back the security staff and hostess and basiclly the whole staff were extremely stuck up. They need to realize they are in the customer service industry and treat people kindly and respectfully. oh the only people we liked were the valet guys they were great!!!

  • Pros: nice view
  • Cons: there staff

nice venue but be careful if you throw a party here

by tripindicular1 at Citysearch

Very trendy fashionable spot. Threw a party here and was very happy with the look and feel of the venue. Great potential.

However we did feel ripped off. We paid a per hour / per person drink price. A waitress approached me and four guests when I arrived and we ordered drinks. We still did not have them over an hour later after we spoke with three other staff including a manager, bouncer and server. The manager was not apologetic and reminded me that we were paying by the hour, not the cocktail. That wasn't at all relevant at that point, I just wanted any drink, even a soda would have been nice. I was finally able to obtain my first drink an hour and twenty minutes into the party. This was a large party that filled the roof deck and it was embarrassing not to be able to get a drink. The bar was open for us but they made the drinks ridiculously slowly so a long line formed. It is definitely better to pay per drink here at this was obviously a tactic. As a host I needed to greet people and chat so it was impractical to stand in a long line or chase the staff for a drink as my own staff ultimately did.

  • Pros: beautiful setting
  • Cons: very poor service at a private party

Save Money:

Saving money is tough here, as cocktails run upwards of $14 each. But try to come early for the happy hour specials during the week, and you might save a buck or two.

Look Good:

The scene on the roof is different from the club downstairs. Less Las Vegas-club, more South Beach-chic. Designer sandals, dresses, sunglasses are perfect.

Know Before You Go:

The roof is huge, with near panoramic views. Make sure you check out all the little nooks and crannies, including the pool deck.
