I have been to many clubs both in and out the US and I can tell you this: the Ivy is absolutely the worse place to have a good time. Now dont get me wrong, if you want to pay some extra "under the table" cash to pay the guy at the entrance then go ahead. There is a line at the club but most of the people getting in are giving this guy a secret handshake with some green. Once you do manage to get in the right way ( that is without having to bribe Mr Mark) you have to get ready to pay 20 dollars for cover which is pretty standard in SD. The bartenders are the just a group of snubs that expect a 50% tip after making you wait 15 minutes, serving you a weak rum and coke and charging you almost the price of a bottle of rum. The club does have a pretty nice vibe to it, but unless you are in the right crowd do not expect to get good friendly service. I still love to go to On Broadway, yeah the line can get long there but you know you are gonna get in. At the Ivy you can be next in line and stay there for another 30 minutes, even after Mark tells you is gonna be only a 10 minute wait. Oh you wonder why I stayed in line so long? I was there to be the DD and the rum and coke was the only one I had for the night. Just in case you were wondering if I am a massochist. I really hope you do not go to this place tonight or any night because if you do, you will be waiting too long to pay to much for drinks. I would spend my money in other older but still very fun places such as On Broadway, Stingaree, The W or ever Aubergine to name a few.
Pros: Good music and lots of space.
Cons: Line is ridiculous, expensive drinks,people bribes the host while you wait in line for ages.

I had a great time at Ivy. The music and general vibe of the club is really fun. The dancers here are WAY better than any of the other typical go-go dancers at the other clubs. They were very entertaining and I couldn't take my eyes off them!! If you're looking for a good time with friends, I recommend The Ivy.
Pros: Great dancers
Cons: Can get crowded
