Editorial Review for Cafe on Park – by Whitney Friedlander
In Short
Exposed concrete and bright yellow walls set a warm vibe at Hillcrest's version of a greasy spoon. Pieces of artwork from local visionaries reflect the spirit of the community. A deli-style cooler advertises wines and sodas, while a full bar is available for those craving mimosas or after-work cocktails. Young hipsters fill the few light oak tables on evenings and weekends, chowing down on crab cakes Benedict and rock shrimp tacos.

Insider Tips
Know Before You GoThe cafe is on the east side of Park, just below University. Look for The Vault, a goth clothing store, that's just north of it.
ParkingUniversity splits at Park. Veer to the right and you'll see metered spots going up a hill. There are also nonmetered spots in the neighborhood a few blocks up, behind the restaurant.

Table for four and all four satisfied! Our diner was DELICIOUS to say the least. I had the New York Steak with Gorgonzola. It came with my favorite Garlic Mashed potatoes and steamed veggies. The potatoes were rich and creamy with just the right amount of garlic and the garnish was a very nice touch. My Veggies were stemmed but not limp or soggy and very flavorful. On my next visit I plan on having the Turkey Burger. It was smothered with mushrooms and had a spicy-mayo. Can't wait. I liked that my Corona came with a chilled mug. The rest of the party ordered wine, tasting was allowed. The water is served in mason jars again nice touch. I've always drank out of mason jars after I've d finished the delicious jelly, jam or canned peaches my mom has made. Our waitress was friendly, outgoing and attentive. By the way this is my first review-the food was so good I was compelled to share it with San Diego. Happy Eats, Canela.
Pros: Two Thumbs up!

Dined here with a few friends for brunch on Saturday. We were amazed at the portions and the extensive, unique menu. They seemed to have a lot of 'comfort food', which I love. My friend had the meatloaf with mashed potatoes (so good), I had a soup (huge portion) and spinach salad. My other friend also enjoyed their dishes. I would definitely recommend this place. They had something for everyone on the menu and everything was very fresh and presented well. My only complaint would be the server had a bit of an attitude with us. Otherwise, food outweighed any of that nonsense.
Pros: Food, Portions
Cons: Parking
