Not a good first experience.
Went to this restaurant as suggestion of my wife and daughter last week. We just moved back to SD about 1.5 years ago and have been wanting to find a 'Go-To' place for indian food and we had driven by this establishment a number of times and thought we'd give it a shot.
First when u drive by you think wow. Then when u walk up and into the place, you still think wow. Great restaurant, great decor, friendly staff
Then we ordered our typical few chicken entrees, a few appetizers and some of the bread and rice sides. I am sorry to say we were very disappointed. I like my food with some salt and probably more than todays health conscious patrons, but every dish I had down to the rice was overly salted and I am sorry to say I will not be returning to this restuarant regardless of how beautiful or friendly they are. I also thought the food was overpriced for what I received.
Maybe its just my family that feels this way? I don't think so.
Great Ambience. I recently wen to the lunch buffet at Bombay. The selection was decent, they had about 4-5 vegetable and meat dishes to choose from. The naan though was excellent. It was made to order and was definitely one of the better things they had in the buffet, along with the desserts. The food itself was mild in flavor (probably toned down for American Palates). The restaurant itself was BEAUTIFUL. The wait staff was very friendly and the price of the buffet was very reasonable. All in all a pretty good experience. My wife and I are new to the area, so we're hoping to find a place with more robust flavors. If you're craving Indian food though, this will quell that craving for sure.
Waste of Time!.
My friend had been raving about Bombay for a week and we finally went this past Saturday. It was one of the worst dining experiences I've had in San Diego. The hostess didn't acknowledge for five minutes while we were standing in front of her. When we were finally seated the waiter came to our table 25 minutes later. He didn't apologize and just took our food order. After another 35 minutes our appetizers came and then another 45 minutes later the main course was delivered. By that point my friend and I were so over it we couldn't even enjoy the food. The food also lacked flavor and freshness. At one point in the evening we looked around all the tables and no one was eating, and there wasn't one person on the wait staff on the floor. The waiter decided to make an appearance at the end when he came to deliver the check, I had to ask for more water as my glass had been empty for the 30 minutes we ate. Needless to say the water came promptly 10 minutes later.
Bombay was extremely disappointing especially since the decor is pretty amazing.
I would never go back there again!
Editorial Review. Casual Hillcrest date spot sets its Indian menu apart with an affordable buffet and plenty of vegetarian options.
WOW.... All i have to say is wow... we had a large party in the back room and it could not have been any better. I love this place.
I agree.... This was my first time trying Indian cuisine and I loved it! The food, service, and ambience was excellent! Perfect for dates.
The Best India cuisine I've EVER had!. Oh My Goodness! The food here is so delicious that my friends and I talk about making the 2 hour drive from home to SD just to eat here! Everything is so fresh and colorful and exploding with flavors. I always eat so much because it is just that delicious!
