BEST REPAIR SHOP EVER!!!. Hello,

Heard good reviews about Hai's Auto so took my 98 Honda CRV there. It's been 3-5yrs now, am quite pleased at the fairness and honesty of the work given to me.

It's hard to find a good mechanic nowadays that won't take advantage of you, so I would say no need to argue over a coupon. Other places I went to wanted to charge me for a $300 repair job when it was only a $50 repair job.. Wasn't that a worth the savings, over fighting a coupon.

Hai's Auto is an Asian "family run business" where the job is run under a noisy environment, so there is alot of shouting going around. Things get handled rather casually. Given that Angie, the owner, sometimes forgets to tell people about the price change due to the job taking a little more time. This has happened to me too but this slight price increase is nothing major. Keep in mind, she is the main person addressing multiple cars, customers, parts orders, and what other problems that come to mind.

Things can get crazy for her with so much going on. She can hire another person but then she might have to raise the repair cost price just to pay for this extra help.

Keep in mind, what Angie quotes at the beginning may change due to finding out that things may later change: additional work/time or parts may be needed later on. If the price changes, then ask her to explain. Also, sometimes she misunderstands what you are asking her.

I guess alot of people are so used to being quoted a flat repair cost.

If people want BMW or Mercedes shop service, then you are going to have to pay alot more which is built into their rather expensive flat repair price.

Though Hai's Auto may not be perfect, they are quite reasonable in what they charge and do not cheat customer's like some other places try to do. I've been to other places where they give you a $15 oil change to get you in the door, then tell you need this and that and you need the work done now ! Though I had refused, this tother mechanic shop had turned my normal day into a stressful one.

Here is another example: My tires needed replacing so Angie instead of giving me her price, was completely honest with me by telling me that I can buy tires from her but the best would be to go to Costco to get tires there that are cheap and then come back for the rest of the additional work, If not a Costco member, then try Discount Tires. How's that for honesty and service!

Overall, I highly recommend Hai's Auto !

cheaper is not better. My mother lived in S.D. until her death in Mar. 2010. She took her car to Hai's for the 60k service in October 2009. The car had 60k miles on it. They did the clutch, brakes, timing belt and water pump, as well as some other little things. Total cost $1100. Sounds pretty good, but here's the deal. When my mother passed away, I brought the car back to Sacramento. The first thing I noticed was a tranny leak. Diagnosis, damaged axle seal from the clutch job. Cost to repair $150. Next I had to replace the front brake pads. The pads only had 6k miles on them. Replaced myself with good pads for $40 and solved the problem. Now here's the good part. The clutch went out 8,000 miles after they replaced it. I called down to Hai's in San Diego to complain. The owner proceeded to tell me that some people can't use a clutch properly. She also told me they only warranty their work for 3 months or 3k. I took the car to a shop her in Sacramento. They replaced the clutch and did it right for $629. The mechanic said that Hai's had used the original throwout bearing and hadn't shaved the flywheel which probably caused the clutch to fail. Very disappointed in their work and customer service. the moral is cheaper is not better. Stay away.
