What People Are Saying About Maxim's Palace Chinese Restrnt

In Short – Popular for family meals to-go, this North Park restaurant serves up quick Chinese food-and makes no attempt to be fancy about it. Tsing Tao signs hang next to posters taped to the walls, and the fish tank sometimes doesn't have fish inside. But the fish served is plentiful, and so are the steaming dishes of chow mein, crispy lemon chicken, kung pao shrimp and roast duck. Delivery is available with an $18 minimum order. – –
Best. best. best. (for East Coast Chinese!!)
by CSMobileUser2
Oh man was I craving Chinese. Been here 2 years and I have just been craving that East Coast style Chinese. I read some reviews by easterners RAVING about their flavor. I was plannin' on a night of "Mongol" bluray and wanted some delish Chinese and was delighted to find Maxim's friendly staff attentive and speedy. They really need to get their menu online, cause I wanted to just phone in for pickup. Delivery is shotty, they do it when their delivery guy/girl shows up for work :( but it's not like it's far away anyhow. Delish, amazing, yum. Makes me think I may find the holy grail of eastern usa food: the maryland blue crab steamed with beer and oldbay. Mmmmmmm. Maybe?? I hope. A+ guys!
Not the best food
by scottsdca
Decor was typical of a mom and pop Chinese restaurant - old and unkempt furnishings. Our server was great - friendly and helpful. They charge an extra $1 for their lunch special if you dine in, which makes one feel like the owners would prefer you eat your food elsewhere. The cream cheese wontons did not have any cream cheese in them. And the chicken chow mien was average at best. The egg flour soup was the best I've ever had, but I will not be returning.
- Pros: Egg flour soup
- Cons: Everything else
Generic Tasting

I was seriously jonesing for Chinese food and this was on the way home, so I thought I'd try it. I ordered the BBQ Pork chow mein and Chicken with snow peas to go. The service was friendly and pretty fast for being cooked after I ordered and the portions were very generous. Unfortunately the food was really bland and kind of generic. The chow mein tasted bland and the only real flavor was the faint taste of the white pepper and the slight sweetness of the bbq pork. The chicken was good, but lacked zest. Two dishes with a side of rice for about $15. If the food was really good, I would say this was a great deal, but since it didn't really seem much better than Panda Express (which I don't really like), it seemed a little much. Even so, I did have enough left over for a full lunch the next day. I'm a big fan of Chinese food, but it's tough to find the good stuff for a reasonable price in San Diego. entrees run from $6.99-10.99
- Pros: Friendly, quick, large portions
- Cons: Bland, almost more expensive than it's worth
