Editorial Review for Fit Athletic Club – by Amy Granite
In Short
With treadmill views of Petco Park's home plate, Padres fans might be tempted to trade in beers and hot dogs for a pair of running shoes. Dubbed San Diego's first "urban fitness retreat" (think of a rock star's country club), FIT offers more than just the best work out equipment in the world. With three instructional rooms for martial arts and boxing, spin and mat classes, members also enjoy ping pong games, personal training packages and an internet café workspace. Not to mention the swank pool lounge and yoga deck offering direct views into Petco Park.

The athletic club is a great plus for the downtown life. The interior is top notch and I love the equipment. It has such a great modern feel to it. The 2 best classes are: Capeoira with Bruno and Butts and Guts with Connie. I have taken several Capeoira classes and this one is by far the most challenging. The music is from Brazil and he teaches a completely different class each time. Expect to burn at least 700 calories. You might also be soar for a day or two. Best instructor I have been to in a long time. Butts and Guts...this class is also very challenging and she will work you out like you haven't worked out before. I was soar for days and my hanmstrings were worked to the max. The yoga is pretty good, as well as th cycle classes. The pool is pretty small and just opened so not sure yet. I will need to swim a few laps and report back. Those are the +. The drinks are pretty expensive for a health club, so bring your own water.
Pros: top of the line equipment, everyting is brand new, and outstanding classes
Cons: expensive water................evian is about $4.50 each.

I've never been one that enjoyed going to gyms, but when I heard of the yoga / pilates, group classes, and martial arts classes that Fit would be offering, I signed up. Now my fiance and I never want to leave the gym! The yoga / pilates and group classes (capoeira!) are fun and a great workout (martial arts classes haven't started yet). Between the classes, machines, and free weights, it's impossible to get bored. I can't wait until the pool, hot tub, and steam rooms are up and running. The atmosphere is great and the staff has all been very friendly and helpful. I love this gym and am glad I joined!
Pros: Classes, Friendly Staff, Upscale atmosphere, Wide variety of things to do
Cons: Being charged full membership price before all things are running (pool, hot tub, steam room/sauna, martial arts classes)
