What People Are Saying About Farm House Cafe

In Short – With seating for just 40 people, plus a few more on the small patio if the weather permits, Farm House harks back to the smaller sidewalk cafes of Europe. The interior paint chips perfectly to evoke an old farmhouse feel, as do iron accents and fabric chair backs. Candles light each table and the half-circle bar, while rustic French classics illuminate the menu. Escargot Risotto and roasted tomato soup stand out on the appetizer list. Flat-iron steak drenched in blue cheese butter can't be beat for dinner.
A bit of France in San Diego!

We keep coming back. The food is consistently great and reasonably priced. We make friends each time at the bar or in the dining room, and run into them again and again. Seems the word is out and people keep coming back. Olivier is a great chef and the staff is delightful, welcoming us by name. Rochelle suggests special wines and aperitifs. We always feel welcome. This is our favorite place to unwind after a busy day, or to take friends for a special event. So nice to have French quality in our neighborhood!
- Pros: Menu is seasonal, so you can count on quality!
- Cons: Not much I can say here.
Overpriced and no country charm here...

The atmosphere is hardly romantic or oozing any country charm - avoid the patio; you're practically eating in a busy street (Adams Ave.) Inside, some tables are too close to each other so you could at least describe it as cozy. Their breakfast menu doesn't offer too many options and portions are small. The french fries were good but they need to work on their bouillabaisse recipe -blah and overcooked. The desserts were tiny and average - the chocolate dessert seemed like it was frozen and thawed just before dinner. Waitresses were flustered for an early Sat night dinner and the restaurant was only half full. Gave it a couple of chances but it failed to impress us. There are some excellent new restaurants cropping up in San Diego and this not one of them.
- Pros: flat iron steak, french fries
- Cons: desserts, ambience, patio, waitresses, tight seating
The Details on Farm House Cafe
Know Before You Go:
Note that the menu is based on seasonal, fresh ingredients. So don't expect to see the same specials in summer as in winter or other seasons.
What to Drink:
Though the menu is heavily French, the wine list is eclectic and international. Try the bubbly Cava from Spain or a great, crips white from Ausutralia.
